Question 21/f heading to prison and seeking advice and friends. Questions about Intake

Hello everyone. My name is Bipasha and I am a 21 year old female. I am heading to prison in a few weeks and would like some advice and friends. Your true friends stand by you during the bad times. I am going to FCI Victorville Medium II in California and to be honest I am scared. My lawyer has given me great advice but he told me to come here for the best advice.

I am curious to know what happens during intake. What will I have to do? What will be done? Is it like a cattle call or what? What is the process?

I also want some advice on what to wear when I turn myself in at the center. Any advice will be helpful and valued. Thank you in advance.

Hello, I'm sorry you have to go on this scary ride , but remember to be strong and never let the prison and people inside get you down to bad. One day it WILL END AND BE OVER. About the intake it's probably different than here in Virginia but when I was put in I had to go to Mecklenburg Correctional Center for reception and classification. They use like 3 places in Va that receive and classify prisoners so you have a mix of EVERYONE. It can take different amounts of time for people but I really don't know why. I've heard of people staying there for weeks all the way to many months. It took me 1 1/2 months to get transferred to my "new home" Keen Mountain Correctional Center, where I lived for 11 years before going to a lower level prison for 4 years. My best advice to you is to not let the system break you. It will be boring, scary, and monotnous but again it will end, I promise. Be Careful, use common sense and everything will be okay. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

If you are female and you are going to Victorville, you will be in the minimum security camp, not a medium security prison.
Make sure to wear a white cotton bra, white cotton briefs (you could wear two pairs), and white cotton socks. Most likely, you'll be permitted to keep those.
Check the BOP website for how to send money in for your commissary account.
Good luck. You'll be fine, and the ladies there will help you out.
