Default A quick question..what does it mean to be a trustee?

Jay told me today that he will be becoming trustee... I don't really know much about this, what exactly does becoming a trustee pertain to? I know that it's a good thing, mainly comes from having very good behavior while you are in. Do they get special privileges? I hope I don't come off as completely dense... LOL. Thanks for any responses in advance.

It means he is trusted by the prison staff and has been a model inmate as far as the prison is concerned...on the other hand "I ain't no m-f bootleg trustee" LOL This is a joke...if you haven't watched the movie "Life" you should...it cracks me up! Congrats to you both! That means not so many eyes on him because they trust that he will do the right thing.

When my husband was trustee in county I got to visit him for 1 hour every Sat. and Sun. We got to hold each other, kiss we didn't have to worry about guards watching our every move. I got to take him food from home or fast food. He could call me from a regular phones no collect calls. I could take my camera and make pictures of him. He got to go outside and wash the cops cars and clean up the yard without someone watching him. They even let him walk across the street to the courthouse and chance lightbulbs in the courtroom without anyone. He was totally trusted. It sucks now not being able to see him or talk to him. Just tell him not to do anything wrong because if he does thats it he will not be trustee again.

the above responses are correct. Trustees are inmates who have a good behavior record in prison and are deemed A LOW RISK FOR ESCAPE. They are often housed separately from general population, given more freedom and priviledges (varies from one place to another) in exchange for working around the prison, courthouse, etc. They actually save the prison a TON of money, because this way the prison doesn't have to hire outside workers to come in and do stuff.

Not all inmates are eligible to be trustees. If one has a violent offense, or has a previous attempt at escape, they may not be allowed to serve as such.
