Never thought about Columbus day. LOL!! It very well could have been a State observed holiday. I know most government offices were closed, I'm sure CDCr took it an extra day off. Sorry if I misunderstood!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has trouble getting through to make an appointment? Most of the time I don't even get a busy signal or a ring, just silence. After calling for 2 days over 100 times, I got through only to find out that appointments were full! I am so frustrated!

Default SHU Information Needed!

So my boyfriend might be coming here to do a SHU term, don't know how long or even if he is, but it is definitely something that might happen. He wanted me to find out some stuff about it so he is a little prepared to what he is going into. He is in Ad-seg in High Desert right now. Are things basically the same? any feed back would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Red face Anyone know about picking up more time, and about SHU, can he make any days back,

Hopefully someone will have the answers to what I'm trying to find out...OK, my man was just transferred here at Corcoran a few days ago, he is in 4A, I believe its SHU, before he got transferred he was at TRACY, he drove up with a 16 month sentence, eligible for half time, date of his arrest was Jan. '08, got to TRACY early March. '08, his release date was supposed to be in Aug. '08...well he got into trouble, on April 22, '08...got sent to the hole, now hes at cocoran SHU, how can I find out his new release date...hes kinda confused about himself, first he thought DEC. 12'08...now he thinks MAR 29, '2009, how can I find out....how does it work when given extra time, they found a manufactured weapon in the mattress that he was using, and he has never gotten into any trouble in the past, so this is pretty much the first time to get in trouble while serving time......can he make any days back....SOMEONE PLEASE HELP....THANK-YOU...

The SHU at Corcoran is much like Ad-Seg or the SHU at other Californis State Prisons. Visiting is Saturday & Sunday's, behind glass, for 1 hour and you MUST make an appointment. They can't make phone calls and they have a very limited time outside. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other SHU questions!

4A is definately the SHU! Just call and ask to speak to an officer and tell them you need to know who his counselor is. The counselor might not be able to tell you too much, but if you call and talk to his counselor it might put his name in their head and make them think to go talk to your man and then at least you've put them in contact. I know that the few times I called my Husband's counselor it seems like she always went and talked to him right after. Good Luck!

She's right. Saturday and Sunday only for SHU, and you HAVE to make an appointment. I heard somewhere that if you travel over 250 miles, that they let you have two hours, but I don't know how accurate that information is, or whether they let you or not.

My guy was in the SHU at Tehachapi (CCI) for a while. vskarski79's right - it sucks, but you can get through it. What helped most was our visits and letter writing.....I'm not sure if they allow it in Corcoran, but I always made sure to send him writing material (paper, envelopes, stamps, and I think I even sent in golf sized pencils - not sure about the pencils, though - it's been a while) and sent him a letter almost every day. I also ordered a weekly newspaper sent in for him, which helped too.

The have a GED Express program there, too. Have hm kite main eduation and the teacher will enroll him and send him lessons to do over the holidays. Helps pass the time. He can get his GED in the SHU now, not as easy as on mainline but it can be done. In his kite, let the teacher know if he wants a lot of math or more social studies so she knows which track to put him on first. She is only on for a couple of weeks in December.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but for the most part, Shu time is dead time and the time that he serves in the Shu does not count towards his release date. So, if he had to serve 2 years but was then sent to the Shu....he will have to serve his Shu time first prior to being able to start serving his other time. The way that I understandit is that the Shu (for the most part) is like the prison within the prison. Perhaps some people are housed there for other reasons and these circumstances will have different stipulations other that what I just explained, but you would have to ask someone who is fully educated on this subject as I am not.

And you will only get his release date from him... the counselor is not suppose to share it with ANYBODY... but it doesnt hurt to try... sometimes some get lucky... it should be on his paper work... and he can also put in a request with his counselor...

Default My friend is going to shu, need info

My friend is going to the Shu and I have some questions. I know most questions are already answered in this forum. But I have a few I couldn't find the answer to. Are there visits in the Shu on holidays? I would love to visit on Christmas and New Years day. How do they house mainline and SNY inmates in the Shu? Do they process the visitors all in the same place? Is it easy to get an appointment every week? And the last one, do you get to go both days?
Thanks

Default Shu

Hi Klinus, it's me Papalonies. I tried calling you today, you'll have a missed call. Have you already gotten the answers to all of your questions? Knowing you, I'm sure you've gotten all the info. I haven't visited PTO in so long, but thought to today. You can now call two weeks in advance for visits and the time has changed to 10-2p. If you haven't visited for over a month and are over 250 miles away (according to their map) then you can have two hours. Everyone, including SNY are treated the same, it is a SHU and that comes high priority security. You have to be there 45 minutes before your visit, but they are good about you getting there up to the actual time, but try not to play it that close. Dress code beats SVSP any day, I so rather be there than SVSP. Take care and hoping all is well with you and yours, Papalonies

Question SHU Visiting Questions & Info

Hello ladies! A friend of my boyfriends family is going to see his Dad at Corcoran soon ( I believe on the 2/15/09).

She is coming from San Diego (where I'm at) and obviously that's pretty far from the prison. I have some question for her so I can give her a heads up on corcorans visiting.

1. My boyfriends dad is in the SHU. I know that typically the visits for inmates in the SHU are like an hour or so. Do they give you additional time if she's driven a certain distance and can prove that?

2. I know every prison is different regarding what they allow/ do not allow as far as visiting attire is concerned. What is corcoran's restrictions like?

3. Is there anything else I should let her know before she makes the trip?

Thank you all in advance, we appreciate it!

Yeah I think you're right from what I've seen. I think she knows that but she's completely unaware of like dress code and stuff. I think she planned on wearing whatever and I'm glad I asked her what she was wearing. haha.

But thank you!
