Got a letter from my hubby today. He sent a memo that went out to all inmates dated 4/9/09. It is long but I am going to re-type the whole thing for you:

"It is our belief all staff and inmates want a safe place to w rk and live. There are several significant reasons we are remaining in our current lock-down status. There have been several incidents over the past three (3) months which have played a major role in our decision making process. There have been twenty-nine (29) unwitnessed assaults, two (2) separate staff assault incidents, and thirty (30) homemade weapons have been recovered in various locations on this Compound. Thirty (30) inmates have checked themselves into the Special Housing Unit, thirty-two (32) incident reports have been written for use of homemade intoxicants and numerous amounts have been recovered in common areas. The excessive amount of inmate property and linen in the Housing Unit cells has also raised concern. All these incidents combined with the most recent disturbance on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, have been the deciding factors in our current lock-down status.

We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the multiple incidents which occurred the evening of Tuesday, March 31,2 009.

Accordingly, we will continue to conduct shakedowns and property reviews of inmates in the General Population. Plans are implemented for the delivery of laundry and limited commissary services as time framces allow. Visitation will remain closed until further notice and a schedule of individual inmate showers will commence on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, on the evening watch shift. We will start showers on the A side and will progress from there until all inmates have been showered.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2009, we will utilize twenty-five (25) Food Service workers on the day shifts and evening shifts to prepare the meals for the general population. This is another step towards gradually rteturning to normal operations. As we incorporate different phases, we will assess and look at slowly moving the general population back to normal operations, possibly as early as the beginning of next week.

The shakedown procedures and property reviews will continue and this is a time-consuming process. You can assist in speeding up this process by having the property you wish to maintain separated from your other property items. Your cooperation will help expedite this process.

Instiution staff will be making routine rounds to address your issues and concerns. You will be notified of procedural changes and all other pertinent information."

Forgive my typos! I did this really quick so you all could see it.

Has anyone heard what is going on? I got a letter dated 4-11 and he says they are gonna be locked down for awhile. They sent a memo stating all the reasons they were still locked down. He says that there has been at least one fight between cellys everyday since lock down. Please keep this updated as info comes in. Everyone stay strong and pray for your loved ones and all the others.

Hubby said, the tension in the cells was pretty bad. Hes doing his best not to "get into it" with other inmates.

Wow this has been 2 weeks and I am really angry. I am angry with the ignorant people who are in there and can think of no one but themselves. They don't care that there are people in there who are trying to do their time quietly and stay out of trouble and get home to their loved ones! They don't care if everyone has to suffer because of their actions. It's hot there, they're stuck with cellmates 24/7 and they are hungry! How does that help anything? And all we can do is support our loved ones the best way we can. Right now that's by writing letters and like bunch2love says - keep praying. They are living in hell and we are in another kind of hell because we love them so. Sorry for ranting but I am just so mad and worried!

Yeah my poor baby was only there for a day when they got locked down. He hasnt been able to buy anything not even hygiene products, plus he' s been stuck in a cell with this stranger. Well he was a stranger, not anymore. This is so frustrating.

Thanks to everyone for all the current info! Keep writing and encouraging each other, it really helps to stay connected. I hate what is happening but having all of you here to check in with each day really helps. My friend's mom got a letter and it said that the shakedowns are pretty bad. They took alot of his items. When they do get commissary again he will need to replace alot of his stuff. I hope it is not true but one of the blogs that Mel showed me suggested that it may rise up again after this lockdown. The guards seem to think it is not over yet and when they let them out we may be going thru this again. Pray that these guys will see the light and behave for the sake of our loved ones that are trying to maintain order.

I honestly believe that this prison needs some major changes. If I was in charge there I would do some shipping out of many, many prisoners, have out of district federal prisoners sent in for now, and force mixing. The gangs need to be busted up.

Has anyone tried that cons call home website? Our calls are long distance and it looks like a good deal but that doesn't mean it is - ha. Does anyone know anything about it?

I agree the prison needs major changes. I have been through this before with my brother and it has never been this bad at the other prison. I hate that he is so far away from me and I can't see him. Now not hearing from him except for one letter saying they were in lockdown and that SIS was trying to put a jacket on him for being a gang member and he told them to check out his paperwork because he is not affliated with a gang and has asked for protection as a stupid gang put the green light on him for not riding with them before he got sent there. I am so mad because my brother is OCD and he has stock piled his hygiene and food items and if the guards take that away from him then he will flip out because I can't afford to send him any more money. These stupid gangers need to be put far, far away from people that are just trying to do their time and come home again. They need a whole new crew of guards and a new warden to take that place over and get things back in order and quit letting the gangs run things and making it such a violent place.

We can only pray that our loved will be safe and will make it through all of this ugly mess.

I use Net10 prepaid cell phone. The phone and 300 mins was $30, I bought it at Family Dollar but you can find them at WalMart. I have a Beaumont number, so its not long distance for him to call. when I set the phone up, they asked for my home #, I gave them the prisons # lol. It cost .10cents a min then .06cents a min for him to call. There is no roaming fee like there is on alot of phones. I hear Cricket is pretty good, but we dont have it here. Its mostly in metro areas.

I can't imagine what my son is going through. He is autistic, this whole thing has been a nightmare for us. Everyday I wake up thinking that will be the day I will hear from him. If people are not going to behave accordingly to medium they need to be shipped to maximum. Lord help us all.

Got a letter from hubby today. The word is that there are 2 big gangs there who got into a hellacious fight which started the lockdown. Says CO's seem real upset because they are searching all cells and and throwing all kinds of persona stuff away. Made him throw away some of my letters becuase he had too many! Threw away his work boots and gloves that he uses for his job there. The last three letters he's sent he's said that they were told lockdown would be over in a few days....but that hasn't happened. I guess that's to keep them optimistic. But now the scuttlebutt is that the two gangs are going to go at it again as soon as LD is over and it isn't going to be good. They think they will be in LD again. But he also said that no one has been able to talk to caseworkers etc because they think the might be trying to move some of the gangers??? I was on the Prison Guard's website to check on that. A few days ago they said the warden was NOT going to move out some of the gangers. But now, I cannot access the the "daily news from BOP" part of the site, so I guess they are keeping us off of it. Hey, I am worried about everyone's safety. Inmates who just want to do their time and get home, CO's who risk their lives every day and the gangers who could possibly be productive citizens if the right opportunity arose. Damn, I sound like a Democrate but am a staunch Republican lol.
Went out and attended a Tea Party yesterday. Stood on a major street corner for 3 hours, held a sign and waved at everyone. We live in a small town and had a big turnout. The car horns never stopped honking and people were going "right on"!! Only 2 flipped us the bird that I saw lol. No matter what your political affiliation is.....Money should be better spent. Let's get some great programs to rehab inmates - especially the ones who are the trouble makers. Some of them can't be rehabilitated, I know that. Many just made really bad decisions. A couple were framed. Isn't it worth spending a few dollars on trying to help the good ones back? Quit spending $ on bailing out banks and car companies and let's start producing some good, quality people in the inmate system who can go out and be productive and get jobs and have some self esteem! O.K. I am getting on a platform and don't want to offend anyone. I just want my hubby home and want the inmates and CO's to be safe and paid decent and they need to find a better way to do it!

Try and keep your spirits up. Keep him comforted by letters and cards. I drop a little something in the mail everyday. Dollar stores have 2 for $1 cards. That way if I don't have time to write he still gets something just about everyday. This forum is such a good place to get our comfort while this travesty is going on. Keep praying that the ones that are causing this will see the light and keep things away from our loved ones.

You are right! in 3 and a half years I have not missed sending him a daily letter (except Sundays). I figure they need all the help they can get to get through what they are going through, especially right now!!!! I've also just started writing my senators about the conditions for both inmates and workers in the prison system. It is not safe for anyone!! I figure if the guy in the movie Shawshank Redemption could get funds for a library by writing every week then maybe if I wrote every week my little voice would be noticed.

Today I had a DOUBLE blessing. I got a letter from my son and not even 10 minutes later after I finished reading it, HE CALLED! I was so excited. He told me they are still in LD but they were let out to make phone calls. I can only imagine the phone lines, LOL. They took all of his books except for 5. He says that he might try have them shipped to me or donate them to the library. They've been eating sandwiches, he still doesn't know exactly what happened and told me he didn't want to either. He sounded in good spirits. He also said that they think it might be over by Mon. They didn't take any of his clothes because he doesn't have anything in excess, except for his books. Georgieco, I admire you for your dedication sending daily letters, it's admirable that you can keep that discipline. I will however, keep extra cards like bunch2love suggests, so that once in a while I drop them in the mail. We do talk very often on the phone, that reassures him alot. I wanted to get on and post the news so that all knew what was going on. Thanks for your prayers and support.

I agree with you. We also have to think about the COs, the also have families and love ones and are in a dangerous situation everyday. Hopefully in order to protect the COs they will move the rotten apples and that will end up benefiting our love ones because they will be safer.

I got my 5min phone call today too! I think he was more excited about being able to take a shower though!! LOL He said he lost some clothes in the shakedown. But it was Fed issued, so it didnt really matter. Hed asked me where his letters were this week. Told him Im still writing, lol He said "So I wont get one until next wensday?" Im thankful that the guards let them out long enough to make 1 phone call. Just cuz our hubbys/BF/sons are in prison doesnt make US bad!
