Default This makes my blood boil--Ombudsman says police officer used excessive force

A report issued Wednesday by Boise Community Ombudsman Pierce Murphy found that a Boise police officer who used a Taser on a suspect's buttocks violated the police department's use-of-force policy.

After reading this and hearing the audio I personally am outraged with this. I think any officers that stood by and watched how officer number 3 acted are just as wrong. Not only did I post in the article at the newspaper, but I emailed the police chief and prosecuting attorney's office with my opinions.

My email to them........

I have just recently read about the officer involved taser incident . I have to say I am outraged by the way justice has worked. These officers were very much aware that what they did was wrong. I also believe they knew that the punishment for anything they did would be minimal. The officer who deleted the recording knew it was so damming that taking what discipline was given for deleting the recording was going to be much better than having whatever was on that recording getting out. If he didn’t do anything wrong then there would have been no need to worry about getting rid of the evidence .

I understand there are times where force is needed to contain a suspect. I do think that force was used above and beyond what was needed. The officer involved in this knew full well he was out of line. I remember recently hearing about a man who was charged for spitting on an officer. In my opinion this is far worse than spitting on someone.

I have never so much as spent a minute in jail. I can say that I am certain if I was to temper/destroy any evidence then I would be charged for a crime. If I was to spit on or lightly push an officer I would be criminally charged. Where is the justice in this? This is more proof that not everyone is treated the same. Who you know or how much money you have does play a part in how are system works. How can I teach my children to trust and respect law enforcement when this is the kind of behavior that is tolerated? Police officers are supposed to set examples. Instead we have every child that caught the 6pm news hearing someone beg and plead that he would be good. That recording sounded like the suspect was past being defiant and had moved on to being afraid. Our law enforcement isn’t put in place to scare or intimidate people. They are there to put people like this suspect in jail for the crime they committed. In this case the officers made the suspect a victim. Even worse is it’s up to our prosecuting attorney to see that justice is served. This covering for one of your own looks very bad. I certainly wouldn’t get away with protecting someone from rightfully being charged with a crime so why should these officers. All this is doing is telling those who don’t trust or respect our system that they have valid reasons for feeling the way they do.

This is a piece from the ombudsman's report

Due to the nature of these allegations, and based on a preliminary review of the evidence, the ombudsman determined that there was credible evidence to suggest that a criminal offense may have been committed by Officer #3.

After reading the entire report I am more outraged then I was before. This officer lied over and over. The report shows that even fellow officers agreed with the suspect in some of the things that the #3 said he didnt do.
