To worried sis

They have changed the doors that visitors enter through after being searched, and the one leading to the visiting room. I have not noticed any other changes.

Has anyone received an email from their loved one on the East Side at any point today? I haven't, which is very odd and I know there has been some violence issues.

My brother had let me know earlier in the week to not worry if I did not get emails in the usual timeframes from him this week since the corrlinks system is having trouble this week. I have been receiving emails ...there was a delay though....especially one day this week.

I've been receiving emails just fine...

also hi...I have a friend in ft dix, this is the 2nd person I've known there, so I'm getting way too familiar with the place. Been going on visits there over a year now. I drive there, I live in the NYC area...if someone wants to help out with gas money and tolls I have a really flexible schedule and don't mind driving down for a visit...I know it would make him very happy too! I don't have the money to go down there as much as I would like to. PM me if you're interested.

did anyone go on fathers day? I went and it was one of the worst visiting experiences I've had. I tend to show up right when they are doing count and now they've made us wait outside of the building if you're not inside the visiting room by 9:30. I personally have bad outdoor allergies and after waiting outdoors for an hour, when I get inside all I can do is sneeze and sniffle. There had to have been 70+ people waiting outside during count on fathers day. there has to be a better way to do this.

So i'm going to see my fiance for the first time in 10 months on the 25th. i'm SUPER excited/nervous! however, this is the first time i will be doing a visit at this facility. So could anyone please give me a little walk through of what to expect, and advice on dress code, what types of ID i need to take, etc.I'm driving 6 hours so I dont want to chance getting anything wrong! I'll be taking my 2 and 4 year old with me since they havent got to see him in even longer, so I'm kind of nervous about that to, any advice would be much appreciated!! oh and thanks to those who helped me with the western union situation, i figured it out

ok lets see...you will need you drivers license..prove of insurance for the car...when you first walk in you fill out a paper with the info..your name the inmates name his number...then you give all you info to the guard at the desk..you go on a line take your shoes off...go through the detector get stamped..go in another room wait for a little bit..then you go outside to another building that's the visitors building once you go in there he should be there if not then just have a seat and he will be there as soon as they finish processing him....as far as what you can wear...nothing tight, nothing short...2 inches above the knee for dresses... nothing low cut, no spandex, you can wear a sun dress or tank top as long as you bring a jacket or some kind of cover up over your shoulder...bring a clear zip bag or make up bag that's all your allow to bring in with you...that's were your money id go...you should bring about 20-30 dollars mostly in singles and quarters...depending on how much you want to eat..they have soda and chips and stuff you can mic..they let the kids run around and play so its not like too bad for them..you can hug and kiss within reason....just be careful they are watching more carefully lately some others have been sent home because of "too" much touching during a visit...you can go to the bathroom as much as you want they call for bathroom breaks for the guys....and don't cry....they cant really show too much emotion in there...if you need to know anything else just ask..I've been there a couple of times...its not that bad..the guards are decent...well, they were when I was there..but ive heard other stories......have a great visit!!!!!!!!

Great walk through description and tips from tinkntaz! She helped me a lot when I was so new to all this.

I would just add....make sure you know if he is on the west side or the east side. You go into different parking lots and buildings depending which side he is on. If you go into the wrong one though...I imagine they just tell you its the wrong one and then you move your car and go into the other building. But just to save you time and aggravation.

Also, make sure you get there in the morning so that you can be into the building and visiting room by 9:30 AM because if you do not make it in by 9:30 AM they make you wait until count is all over and so you cannot see him then until 11:00 AM. Happened to me on my second visit when I got held up waiting in a line for a soccer game on the base taking place right beside the FCI. I got to Ft Dix early but then waited in line for over a half hour because of the soccer game families and then was 7 minutes after the 9:30 deadline. If you are going on a Saturday there is often these big soccer tournaments/games.

Remember too that you have to go through a checkpoint for the military base first before you get into the prison property itself. The prison is on a very large military base. You want the Pemberton Gate (Pemberton Rd/Pointville Rd) for that and not the Main military base gate.

Hope that helps. Have a great visit. I hate all the process and procedures and the COs barking but it sure is good to visit.

Chris tells me its super hot and I'm in triple digit desert weather but most of my time is spent inside under the a/c lol.

By the way, anyone going in february id be more than happy to provide gas & toll money. I will be staying two days since my visit will be following a proxy marriage. If you're not staying two days, that's fine as I have family in NY that I will be visitingafter anyhow. Pm me :-)

Ok then the system must be down in a lot of places b/c I got no goodnight or goodmorning email from chris, and corrlinks made an fb post asking if their system was down for people and lots of not so happy responses. I'm like u, I get super worried when I hear nothing. Hopefully he knows its down. There's been times he thought I wasn't responding.

Does anyone know what happened on 8-15 in unit 51 on the east side? Some one was stabbed or cut or something, they took him out in a stretcher.

Default HURRICANE STATUS AS of 10:00 PM

I have been monitoring the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Facebook page (very helpful), state emergency management website, and some local news outlets to see how things are at Fort Dix New Jersey. They are pretty much in the thick of it right now as the hurricanes goes through. They are reporting flooding on base roads and in the area. High winds with the very loud noise you get from the hurricane winds. The military base turned off their Giant Voice that reads messages out, like a big outdoor intercom system, since the military staff and families on base would not be able to hear it due to the noise from the winds. The military base has sounded some sirens tonight to alert the base people they are under tornado warnings but I did not see any reports that there has been any tornado activity. The military base pretty much closed down early this evening with only essential staff on duty and roads closed only to emergency traffic and limited access to the base. They have a couple of emergency shelters set up on the base but are saying that they should only be used by those with on base housing and only if your on base housing is damaged. There are local emergency shelters set up in the towns so the military base wants their people housed off base to use those. My brother and I have emailed back and forth a couple of times today. Want him to know that even though he probably feels very isolated right now that I am watching and monitoring what is going on done there and caring for his welfare. He has not said anything about things happening at the FCI any different than usual so I have no information on that. Maybe someone else does. Hope this is helpful. I know we all worry when we are far away. Everyone stay safe. Many of you may have been through the hurricane already. We anticipate it up here tomorrow morning. Have just had the off and on rain today. Hang in there everyone!

Also meant to say in addition to the high winds and some road flooding being reported on base and in the Fort Dix area....I also saw reports of some trees being down causing road closures in the area around Fort Dix.

A few more recent postings from the military base's Facebook Page:

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst
As we go through this next rain band, winds will gust, rain will continue and visibility is low. While you should not be on the roads, if you are use extreme caution when driving and approaching the base. Drive slow. Be safe!

For your awareness... Tornado warning north of JB MDL.
