Default How much does it cost you to visit your loved one?

...fuel, your food on the road, visiting room money, hotel/motel or anything else (hair, nails ).

It usually costs me about $50 for a visit, between gas and all.

I love to be able to see him, but sometimes I'd rather put that $50 in our phone account and get 25 15-min. calls. Choices, choices...

I can sometimes get away with a visit costing me sixty dollars. Sometimes at most it cost me 100 dollars and that's only a one day road trip.

It costs me anywhere from $400 to $800 to visit my baby, depending on how far in advance I can book a flight and if I can borrow his dad's truck to get to the facility or if I have to rent a car. I'm in PA and he's in MS...

I have to rent a car for at least 2 days which is about $80.00. Plus gas is about $50.00 drive the 2 1/2 hours away visit on a Saturday or a Sunday. Plus Get 20.00 in quarters for the visit itself for him. I would say about 150.00 for a visit.

When I went to see him in April, it cost me almost $800.00. We love to shop and get bored with the same outfit, so I had to buy new clothes. I booked everything in advance, so I did save some money. He's 8 miles from Canada, so you can imagine that it was expensive to go see him. If I had to do it all again, I would. We really enjoyed each other.

Roughly $80-$100 for a car rental
$60 for gas for the 3 hours drive
another $60-$80 for food during visit
and $50.00 for hotel.

When I went for my first visit just a few weeks ago I spend over 900.00. Here is the break down:

Airline Round Trip: 450.00
Rental Car for three days: 250.00
Hotel for three days: 240.00
Total: 940.00

Mine you I am coming from Ohio and he is in CA, I drove from San Fransico to Atwater which is roughly an 85 mile distance, so gas also should be factored in at 80.00.

Default Phone calls ???!!!!

At least you get to talk to him... Here in the backwoods state of Texas we are just now getting phones.... If I could hear his voice before going to sleep just to say goodnight would be ......... I can't even find the words to explain.

Since i am in Nebraska and he is in NY it is well over a thousand dollars. I fly to the city that is next to plattsburgh i was taking a cab too and from the prison. My fair to get to Plattsburgh is out rageious to me it is like a 125.00 just to get from Burlington to Plattsburgh and visa versa going back. I was so way over my budge I had to call my family and had to have them send me more money to get back home. I'm driveing their and back this time i want to see how much that cost me verses flying plus my children are going and my grand baby. Their has not been one time that i flew to ny and my ticket was less then 500.00 or should i say 495.00 plus i have to pay for luggage and that runs the cost back well over 500.00 I have been flying delta lately they charge for your bags to go their and back. So i hope me drivieng makes a difference. This other crap i can not take dealing with pulling all my things out of my luggage being held up almost missing the plane becasue I am a diabetic. Then my luggage gets searched again because of my syrenges. For what i have to pay i get invonvienced alot.

You are so right about the phones. By the time I spend money for gas, vending machines and then never knowing if they are going to allow a contact visit or not...a phone call each night would be absolutely heavenly.

I guess I am very lucky that my costs are less than several of the other out of state posts. a one day visit runs about $150 for gas and his vending machine addiction (food) I don't eat much from the vending machines and he generally runs 40-60 for food. The "menu" at CMC is very poor and so he looks for anything that he can't have normally. This is usually fruit or acutal meat products. I can
add anywhere from 40-80 for a room if I go for a two day visit. I haven't done that since the holidays though.
This upcoming weekend will be sort of expensive because he wants us to have a night alone before we return home to the "family" (my two sons). Times are getting difficult w/$$$ though.........too many changes to the finances to count. Right now I am trying to focus on the positive of his returning home.......it may not sound like it but I am excited over his returning to the nest and having another chance at a real life.

It ends up being expensive because if you are like me, you want to look really cute. So I always get my nails/toes done the day before $60. I always end up buying at least a new shirt, maybe $30-40. It takes me a full tank to get there and back so $40. I get the card for the vending machines in the visitor room, around $10 a visit. So it ends up costing me around $150 each time I visit and I visit once a month so that really adds up!

I guess I never realized how lucky I am to live so close to the prison where my man is at. I only live 26 miles away and I can go right after work every other weekend. The only real money I have to bring is change for snacks during the visit.

One thing I'm learning through all this is to be thankful for what I do have...
