They MAY be eligible or college money in prison!!!

There is a false belief brewing in the country that says that incarcerated people are not eligible for college money from the government while incarcerated. I am not sure how the federal system works, but let me say a few things regarding state prison systems:

It is true that state inmates are not eligible for federal funding. However, many states offer state funding for the inmate to go to college. I personally received state funding to go to college while in prison in Wisconsin. This was less than two years ago, so I am sure it is still the same. If you have questions, don't contact the prison for answers. Call FAFSA, check out their website at www.fafsa.gov If they confirm that the state does allow state funding for incarcerated people, then you can call the prison if need be.
