Angry 5 minute full parole board hearing

My friend will be having a full board hearing on the 10th and I just got a notice I can attend and talk for him, his public defender said I could go and it would be a good idea to be able to show the board he has support but no matter what I say the board will not consider as they will already have their minds made up! Why have us show up other than for support?

My biggest problem is what to say as they only allow me 5 minutes, yes 5 minutes to say everything I can think of to help, what would you all say in 5 minutes?

Default 5 minutes

I think I should write it all down and recite it back to them but why bother since the lawyer said it would make no difference in what I say that the board already had their minds made up? WHy have a lawyer and everyone go all teh way to Columbus and not really care what we say, why have their minds already made up

They don't have their minds made up unless this is the first time he was considered for parole. They only do the full board if he may get out. It depends on who protested his release. If its the victim then he most likely will get two more years if it was the lawyer then you may make a difference.

Default 5 Min PB Hearing

I agree with Ravens Love, I you are able to attend and can do I so, I say GO, GO, Go. You can always make a difference. I like to think that I was when I attended my son's back in 2007. He could have gotten up to 5 yrs, instead they extended him to only two and this year we are waiting for him to hopefully be able to come home. Was it because of my attendance there? I would like to think that I did make a difference. Good Luck to you and Good luck to Raven's Love in her quest. I hope we both get lucky, you with your Hubby and me with my Son. GBY all.

My understanding is "full board" is once parole has been granted and there has been a stop letter issued. http://66.161.141.185/orc/5149.101 or just google Ohio revised code 5149.101
(A)(1) A board hearing officer, a board member, or the office of victims’ services may petition the board for a full board hearing that relates to the proposed parole or re-parole of a prisoner. At a meeting of the board at which a majority of board members are present, the majority of those present shall determine whether a full board hearing shall be held.
(2) A victim of a violation of section 2903.01 or 2903.02 of the Revised Code, the victim’s representative, or any person described in division (B)(5) of this section may request the board hold a full board hearing that relates to the proposed parole or re-parole of the person that committed the violation. If a victim, victim’s representative, or other person requests a full board hearing pursuant to this division, the board shall hold a full board hearing.
(B) At a full board hearing that relates to the proposed parole or re-parole of a prisoner and that has been petitioned for or requested in accordance with division (A) of this section, the parole board shall permit the following persons to appear and to give testimony or to submit written statements:
COBR (central office board review) is when the inmate has been recommended for parole.
Central Office Board Review (COBR): Case consideration by at least a majority of the members of the Parole Board. A case may be referred to COBR by any Parole Board member or members. Central office board review does not require that the members be sitting together to consider a case. http://www.drc.ohio.gov/web/drc_poli...105-PBD-10.pdf
An offender conference can be scheduled the month before the inmate is to see the board.
One day each month is scheduled for offenders’ families to meet with Parole Board staff. Offender conferences are conducted regionally in most major metropolitan areas. The conferences afford interested parties the opportunity to exchange information with the Parole Board prior to the inmate’s hearing. To request an offender conference, please contact the Parole Board at 614-752-1200 or toll-free at 1-888-344-1441.

I'd start of by telling the board that five minutes isn't really enough time to decribe the good in your friend and how much support they have. Then I go into what I needed to say. Good luck!!!!

Default Board Hearing

When Bill went before the parole board in Aug they said they could not decide about giving him a parole right then that they would give him a full board hearing and then his parole will be decided. The parole board did this before to him at his last parole hearing 5 years ago, then made him wait almost 5 months for the full board hearing then out of no where he gets a letter from the parole board saying he has had his full board hearing and he was not only denied he was givnen a 5 year flop! Last time he was not allowed to attend, was not allowed to have a lawyer reresent him and not allowed to have anyone come speak for him, this time he can! WHat has changed between parole board hearings?

Also his lawyer said it would be good for me to come to show Bill has support but it makes no difference what I sy as the board will have their minds made up already! What teh hell bring all of us all the way to Columbus and you already haveyour minds made up!

Default Parole Board

I just saw this statement "One day each month is scheduled for offenders’ families to meet with Parole Board staff" so how do I get this meeting? Can I go every month? I thought after 20 years if my friend does not get his parole I would go every month until they give him his parole! Maybe they would get tired of seeing me and let him out!

sirak is an expert.... you go and meet someone at the parole board and speak to john doe tell them everything, they will reply so nicely and kind, tell you everything will be fine...but when he goes up to the board, whoever he see's will have a different demeanor and will care less about your visit, they will do whatever they feel like doing because of the "unbridled discretion" going to their heads.

you call and set up an appointment, been like that for years. But go to the hearing stress the mitigating factors, place to live, possible employment, you will help him with job, transportation, obtain his license, etc. family support.

Mr. Collins also stressed that for every letter of support, ODRC gets 20 letters against parole.

Does he have a victim or victims family in his case who will object to the parole? If so, good luck.

Call 2 months before your loved one is to see the parole board. They'll give you an appointment the month before loved one ses the board.

bebopp I was under the impression you are going to a full board hearing. You are at the last stop. Everything else people are saying is what happens before hand. You will be sitting across from the board with his lawyer next to you, who every stopped it will be on the right hand side of you.

Just stress the positives in his life. His good institutional records. Jobs homes anything that will help show that he is a changed person.

good luck

Ramlo

Default Full board Hearing

Well folks I may be paraonid but is someone from teh parole board montoring this site? I ask because at the hearing the first thing they said was we would have all the time we needed that they did not want to deprive anyone of what they had to say!

Bill had 5 years left on his sentence they gave him 3 years! No victims were there to protest it it was his ex wife and his sister who hopes Bill dies in prison so she can keep his house! Oh well at least I tried and made the effort to go and to speak up.

Default Lied to Board

Yeah I feel sorry for Bill he should have been out long ago. But the witnesses against him were not even involved in his case, they came in and lied and said they were and then one even lied and said she was a Licensed Social worker! I looked on the Ohio website to find her license to see if she was and when she got her license she was not on the list!

They got to talk to the Board freely while Bill's lawyer said I could talk of nothing of his case to the Board and made me feel we we were in the presence of GODS! Even when asked by the board what I thought about what these woman had to say, the lawyer pressed my arm to remind me to keep quite! I wanted to let the board know these women were lying to feather their own nests but was cautioned to keep quite, a lot of good that did!

The one lady was Bills sister she wants Bill to die in prison so she can keep his house! Their mother entrusted the house to her until Bill gets out, put it in her name but it was in his mothers Will that Bill was to get the house so she figures if Bill dies in prsion she will get to keep the house. She lives with her lover (another woman) and they rent the house out for extra income!

Can I hire a lawyer to look at Bills files there at the Parole Boards offices?
