Default Updated Marriage Information

Hello,

In searching the threads, I noticed there isn't any recent (2009) marriage information. If anyone was married at Farmington CC lately, can you please give me updated information... what was/wasn't allowed, your experience, how many others were married at the same time, etc, etc. I sure would appreciate any info you can give me. I'm possibly expecting a 2010 marriage here if it isn't too difficult.

THANKS and keep on, keeping on!

MARRIAGE
Marriage is an important life event. The significance of having a meaningful
relationship during incarceration is recognized and supported by the department.
While it is understood that certain regulations must apply for the safety and security
of the institution, attempts are made to ensure this special event is memorable.
The following are guidelines used for planning and celebrating marriage during
incarceration.
How are requests to marry submitted?
The request to marry must be sent to the institutional chaplain from the offender.
That request must include the name of the prospective marriage partner, the proposed
date of the ceremony, the names of witnesses, and the name and verification
of credentials of the individual performing the ceremony. The prospective marriage
partner will be required to obtain the marriage license from the Recorder of
Deeds Office in the county in which the institution is located. It should be noted
that some counties elect not to process marriage licenses for an incarcerated individual
and some facilities only have two opportunities for marriage each year. A
wedding may not be allowed if security could be compromised.
Who can perform the ceremony?
It is the offenderʼs responsibility to ensure that an individual authorized to perform
the ceremony is available. Outside clergy or an authorized county official may
perform the ceremony. A valid marriage license must be obtained in advance. It
is important to make sure the license is valid at the time the ceremony occurs, and
that the Recorder of Deeds validates the license prior to the ceremony.
Who can answer other questions regarding the ceremony?
The institutional chaplain usually coordinates all marriage ceremonies. Any questions
regarding requests to marry or an upcoming ceremony should be directed to
the chaplain. Procedure IS8-5.1 Offender Marriage provides step-by-step information
for planning the marriage and is available to offenders in the library. It is
important that you maintain close contact with the institutional chaplain to make
certain the marriage occurs on the date requested and that appropriate licenses are
obtained within required time frames.
How can divorce proceedings be initiated?
Divorce is a civil and personal matter, and the Department of Corrections is not
involved in that process. Divorces should be handled through a private attorney.

i have to step by step from the chaplin but i got to find that first....i have tons of letters and it's around here somewhere as soon as i find it i'll post in depth details i'll get that to u asap

I appreciate all the info greatly. Also, good luck on your upcoming marriage!

How is your better half doing at Farmington so far? It took some getting used to by my guy. He's been there about 7 months or so.He says that the "short timers" are more apt to start a fight because they know they're going home soon and haven't had to deal with hard time to know how to behave. He also said the time was much easier to do in the level 5 camps because of this.

He's been in since Jan '98 on 85% and is coming home this October...yayy. They say the last year is the hardest because it seems to last forever and it's true!

Your more than welcome sweetie and ty! Lol well mine doesn't seem to have a problem really any where he goes. Alot of the times when he gets transferred he meets back up with some guys that he has been locked up with in other camps already. He has also been locked up since 98 and still has until aug 11!! I think it's harder on me to transitition from a transfer than him. He just transferred there last week so I have no clue what this place is about. So far im hating it!! lol I used to send all his letters through jpay and it seems to be that this camp doesn't have that ability so it's making me angry! As far as the fights go...that's the part I hate. My man will fight in a min, i always be telling him to think about others cause when you go to the hole you are punishing us out here as well. but it's funny he is like i'm not gonna let any old dude talk to me just any kinda way! So oh well, it's on him!

Missingangel I thought I'd let you know since you said you may also be getting married this year...my man spoke with the chaplain at Farmington today. He said that they hold ceremonies twice a year. One in March and one in September. In order to get married in March, you would had to of had your paperwork submitted in Dec '09. He also told him that you have to supply your own clergy/officiate and that there is one in the area that will do it for $100. He received the packet and is sending it to me.

Thank you, yes my fiance talked to the chaplain yesterday. Just to see how different their rules and stuff was different from the other camp we had planned to get married at. Here they do it two times a year and you have to put in your request to get married 90 days prior to the months. They have to fill out the paper work, and send it in with both ss numbers on it, then you have to go up there and get the paper for you to get the marriage license and then a couple days before the ceremony u have to take it back up there so they can see it's lagitament. The ring that you get him can not be of value above 100 dollars and his can not have a stone in it, you can only have 8 guest counting you, him, the minister, and ur witness, he can have one inmate accompany him, the rest of the people have to be on his visiting list and already approved before the wedding.
