Mail between the UK and SQ is a nightmare right now. Hope it improves soon. Word is, there is a problem in the mail room?

My friend on SQ DR warned me in advance that my letters would take 4-6 weeks to reach him, because the mailroom gets backed up and is understaffed, and the incoming mail is screened. However, his letters usually reach me within 5 days after he posts them. I just received something from him a few days ago, so am not sure if there's a wide-spread problem with outgoing mail.

Has your friend mentioned "Access Securepak" food boxes? California allows these to be sent in as often as four times/year. My friend loves certain food items (especially the donuts).

Exactly, and the people that work in the mail room, the guards, the warden, they all know how important letters are to help keep their sanity. They think it's a game.

SQ is notorious for slow mail room, they have no control over their mailroom. Other prisons the mail is there 3 days tops.

I have had mail from Calipatria to the UK in four days, so it can be done. SQ don't want to do it!

My pal on SQ DR gets my mail.......eventually (usually about 3 weeks)I seem to get his in about 5 days!

Just bought him a Halloween card so that's gotta go soon. I keep his letters and cards simple, just writing or printed pics, no extras, nothing that might come even close to being a sticker or whatever else is banned - at least that way I can be confident he will get my post at some point.

I send postcards/greetings cards in between letters too so that he has stuff turning up vaguely regularly. Last year I sent his Xmas & Birthday cards nice and early so they wouldn't be late so then they speeded up and he got them on the 1st of December - You just can't win with that mail room

Rant over.

It's not world wide, I've worked in prison over here for a year and it's so much different then in the US, the mail that was comming in was giving to the guys that same day.

Also everything else was diferent, the guys could go outside twice a day, sport every evening, work half days and the other halve they could do what they want pretty much, they're not locked up in their cell all day, only when the got to eat and from 9 in the evening till 8 in the morning.
We even played cards with them, it really is so different, that's one of the reasons why I started writing, I can't stand the way people are treated in US prisons...
