I believe you have to order it directly from the facility, I'm almost positive you cannot ship your own. I know that in Annandale you have to purchase it directly from the prison, so I'm assuming the same goes to mid-state.

Default TV's

All appliances....TV's , radios, clock radios, etc. come in clear plastic casing so nothing can be hidden inside the case or mechanism. Expensive, but better than having someone bust up his TV if they suspect something is being hidden in it....any type of contraband.

IMO...has he ever just ran out and bought you something for 200.00...Just because he wanted to?
JMO But, I have a problem that many men screw up and go to prison...leave a family behind with terrible financial difficulties...
Then they want TV's, radios, money for food and phone calls, Money, money...did I say, Money?
I feel the one direct way people learn is by example..
If you say...I will put 10.00 away a week...because you being incarcerated has put me in a financial bind...When I can save the 180.00..I will send it.....
That is just what I would do.(smile)
and no you can't take him off your taxes or shoot him..They are both illegal! LOL

That **stard never went out and just spend 200 on me NO. but he did buy me jewerly, clothes, clothes, clothes, and lots of stuff for our baby. But I hardly send him cash, so he should no better to ask me for 178. Is he crazy? Haa!! I like your idea. But I rather save $10.00 a month so by that time he will more than likely be home. Either way, If I cant buy a clear one for $45 out here and ship it, then he WILL not get one for $178. He needs to be a good lil boy and prove that he is worth that much. But thinking about the phone $, the car rides to see him. I think I spent more than that already, but it just sucks to give him $178 off the bat.

He can bring the TV home as well as other all his other personal items when he's released. Tax wise I don't know about. I would consult a tax professional about if you're married, you may be able to file as head of household.
I do know that the money he makes inside is not counted as income, so the only way to file taxes on his behalf is if any other income on the outside in 2009.

It looks like you need to order from their catalog which is based on each state. It does not look like there is one for NJ...

In NJ they can only order thru commissary. You cannot buy one outside and have it shipped to him. Period. LOL And yes he can bring it home with him I believe.

But that's just why Jason never got a TV. I couldn't afford it so too bad for him. Thats what they dayroom is for. LOL If they get out. And if not, you betta get a book from the library dude and read your little heart out or hey.. even better idea.. WRITE ME A DAMN LETTER. LOL

boo has a tv. im guilty as being the enabler. i kind him having a tv beats the hell outta listening to him bitch about how "the same people control the day room tv every day all day" and yes it really is like that! lol. in county these crazy b*itches would wake up at 7 for breakfast and sit their butts down and literally not leave the table all day. they would write letters, play cards, eat etc all at that table in control of the tv. and they did it e.v.e.r.y.d.a.y.

Plus if your guy is in a 23-hr lockdown prison, they only get an hr to try to watch tv, shower, call, etc. Not alot to do in the cell all that time.
He got one in Garden State as it was a 23 hr lockdown and it went with when he transferred, he was able to go the dayroom but as Bean said, it was tough to try watch what he asked or was even able to understand. Alot of squabbles over who controled what was to be watched. Worth the money to avoid any disputes.

I respect your honesty.
OK....I have to say it!
You see what it says under my name....
This is not personally directed at you....
If he wanted drugs so bad and sat and whined and bitched about not having them...would you buy that too?
We as woman must really try not to enable...or reward bad choices are love ones make...
I understand drugs and TV;s are apples and oranges...But the behavior and the reward are the same....
We have to help break a chain.... to stop
recidivism

even tho this is supposedly not directed at me i will take it as that because you replied to my post.

im sorry but that was one of the most ridiculous things i've read on here in a long time.

i dont think having a tv in prison has anything to do with the rate of recidivism. you've clearly never been locked up.

its not about rewarding bad behavior. its about making things easier on him. no one whos never spent even a night or two in jail can comprehend what it is like. are you aware at all of the suicide rate for incarcerated persons? i keep mine happy. tv, commissary money, visits, always money on the phone, mail all the time. mine wont be part of that statistic as long as he has me.

"If he wanted drugs so bad and sat and whined and bitched about not having them...would you buy that too?" now that is just ignorant. its a friggen tv, not a brick of heroin. i would never smuggle him drugs. i wont even buy him alcohol on the outside. tvs and drugs arent apples and oranges. its more like apples and beef. using tvs and drugs as comparisons is just ludicris.

we can never stop recidivism. the cos, prisons, jails, hwhs, rehabs courts etc can not stop recidivism. the convicts are in control of that. its up to them to stop it.

Wrong, I am a convicted felon....Spent time in prison...drugs... I know all about prison and day rooms!!!
You can stop recidivism... It is all about making the right choices and supporting your loved one into making better choices. If everyone thought you couldn't change it..Gawd help us!
Just stating a fact here....
...15 yrs out and I don't even have a parking ticket..
I mentor 7 Federal inmates(drug conviction)...3 are out for 2-5 yrs now...All 3 work good full time jobs and one of those just opened his own company...Not a one selling drugs.. and not a one is a statistic on the recidivism..
(no probation violations)
Sorry you got defensive...It really wasn't meant to be directed at you...
I didn't call you an enabler...You said that in your first line..
Good Luck

if you are a felon than you should understand having a supportive family, getting visits, and having good stuff like a tv, radio, etc isnt going to make you more likely to come back to prison.

i can have a PS3, big screen tv, and lobster for dinner every night and i am not going to want to go back to prison. i dont care how GOOD things in my fantasy prison can be, sleeping alone in a cold lonely cell everynight, being away from everything i know as home, spending holidays and birthdays away from my family, not being able to step outside and breathe uncirculated air, and not seeing my son smile when i wake up to him poking at my arm every morning...that cant be replaced. everyday i spent away from him is another day i will never get back with him. i dont care if the jail was the finest spa hotel in new jersey, i dont want to go back.

i know i labeled myself the enabler...but theres no reason to be acting like i am hurting him and increasing his chances of going back by supporting him and by buying him a tv. you sort of acted like im bad for doing it, or people like me who can afford to do things like that are bad for doing it.

i don't believe in that whole WE can stop/decrease recidivism junk. we have no control over other peoples' actions. sure we can influence them, but if they don't want to change and don't have it in them to change...theyre not changing. i'm a good kid. i never got in trouble until he got me in trouble. i never used drugs around him. i'd been clean off drugs for 2 years when i met him. that never stopped him from doing it. it doesnt matter what kind of people you roll with. its all in the person. you cant make an anorexic girl eat just because you take her out to dinner. when it comes down to it you only change for yourself and you only change because you want to. i wont change him, prison wont change him, TC wont change him, god wont change him. he will cahnge himself.

Enabling someone by providing drugs to them is different, hands down. A TV isn't killing your loved one, in some instances it may prevent the death of your loved one. Not every case is that extreme. No matter what you do, whether it be buying a TV, sending money, or sending mail if that individual wants to participate in drug use or crime that subsequently results in prison or jail time they are going to do it. If my boyfriend comes home and goes back to heroin I'm pretty sure when he goes to put the needle in his arm he isn't going to stop and say to himself, "Jess was pretty good she bought me a TV so maybe I shouldn't get high" or on the reverse, he isn't going to say "Jess was miserable to me while I was locked up, I don't want that to happen again, so maybe I won't get high". I'm pretty sure he is getting high and arrested either way. Recidivism can be prevented many ways, and a tough love approach may be one of them, but it can also be increased the same way. You may call my indulgence enabling, but I know my loved on, I know he has longed his whole life to have someone care as much as I do, and I know he appreciates it. Addiction is a disease, it isn't something we can control by withholding a TV. If addition is not the issue, I'm still pretty sure, TV or NO TV, they will do whatever they want to do.
