Default when should I write to the Parole board

my fiance just got sent back to KY for leaving while he was on Parole. He is most likely going to have to flatten his time (12-15 months) I am just wondering when a person should send a support letter? Is it too soon now to do this?

My son come up for parole in Sept.. Thank you so much for the great advice. I just wish that the parole board would actually talk to the inmates when the time comes. Here in Georgia, the file just goes from office to office and they put a stamp on it, yea or nay. It goes to five parole board members, but they never actually speak to the inmate. I feel they can't know if they are rehabilitated or not without speaking to them. Thanks again for the advice

thanks alot for the sample letters. my husbands parole hearing is scheduled for july 17th at 9:10 a.m. and i am in the process of trying to make sure that i get letters out to the parole board as well as a copy to him. my husbands offense is a sexual offense against an adult back in 1991 and he has been in every since without any problems. what do you think would be the probability of him coming home since this is his first offense of any criminal nature? thank you for all that have supported us and please keep us in your prayers as i do you.

proudmom,
Go to the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole website. I think it tells you there how to request a hearing date. Good Luck.

Do you or your kids have any medical conditions? If there is something there to go on you can use that as a reason for transfer. It is a hardship for you to be traveling that distance with the medical condition and it could even be an emotional or psychiatric one too. Just a few examples; Asthma, glaucoma or cataracts, circulatory problems, any mental or psychiatric conditions such as bipolar, depression, ADD or ADHD. Just thought since this has helped me keep my husband 30 minutes away from me instead of being sent 4 hours away it may help you too. Good luck..

Sam, read through the entire thread and you will find suggestions and even a sample letter. The letter really needs to come from you - not a boilerplate letter that someone else wrote for someone else. Someone provided a list of considerations that should go into a letter. I took that list and addressed each item that applied and wrote my letter that way. Perhaps you could draft the letter and then post it in a PM to someone on this thread for their thoughts on your letter.

Good luck, and holler if you need any more help.

I want to know when you should start sending letters. I don't want to irritate the parole board. My husband is going to prison for a 10-year sentence. He will be going in a month. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone reading this has had a loved one that has paroled on the first go around please let me know if you wrote the parole board and anything else that may have helped.

Thanks!

hi serena,i am in marshall co.,albertville.my son went to a state prison a year ago for violation of probation on a ten year sentince.we are waiting for a parole hearing date to be set.if your fiance was only sentenced to a year, and he will be given credit for the time he is serving now,he should be ok.it probably won't do any good for you to write anyone right now.i know that you are scared and uncertain .it will get better.do you have family who can be there for you now? you should get on the forum for alabama jails and prisons.you will find a lot of great people there who have ,or are going thru the same things and can offer a lot of love and support.goodluck, and may God be with you and your little ones. shelia

Since you husband it just beginning he should start with his parole package early. What I mean is start out becoming the model prisoner. Be the best that he can be and hurry up and get out of there. Instead of sitting around hating on himself, guards, his past - take this time to start fresh and get out of the system. Get into many programs. Learn to be pleasant the guards and managers. These people can never say anything to him but write negative in his files if he nasty toward them. If he needs his Ged do this. If he has employers outside that want him to come when he gets out stay in touch with them. Stay in touch with clergy people as well. They can submit letters upon arrival. They will go into the files. If his cause is drug or alcohol get in the programs. Sign him up with online correspondent drug programs if necessary. They have online prison ministry. Thats get on jump start on the his parole packet, plus transforming himself. Then for him to be going home to a common law wife/wife with children is a plus. Having other support person outside like clergy, counselors, church. Oh yes attend church in jail. See they have nothing else to go by other than your life inside as for as him making a change. I got this info from a guy who was a board of parole member and his job was going to different prisons interviewing the inmates. One other thing time is always a facter, he must do some time that doesn't demean his crime.
