Words can not express my sadness. Michael and I have been pen pals for a few years now. I know he was hopeful for a stay. I can't imagine what must have been going thru his head to hear he was denied a stay. Michael my dear, rest in peace. <3

Default Forever in our hearts you are, Michael.

“Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.”

Rest in Peace dear Michael. You are at peace now. My thoughts, heart and prayers go out to his loved ones.

I know how incredibly hard this must be for you. Just know that you provided him with something so beautiful when he most needed it, which was your friendship.
He is at peace now.

If it is any consolationfor you i spoke with Michael on the phone while he was in Huntsville about an hour before his execution. He was in good spirts and he was his usual self, he was at peace with what he called "Gods will"
He is so sadly missed by us all

God i just read his web page, this has to be the saddest thing i have ever read and really touched me... I cant believe the execution went ahead. What a sad sad story of an inspirational young man.
I am from England so quite clueless, his execution although 9 years after conviction sounds soon to me when you have people spending 15-20 years before a date. Why is this? why happen so soon for some and never for others?
His family and friends are in my thoughts and i hope someday he is proven innocent and something is learnt by this tragedy

Texas now averages less than 10 years. Texas has fast tracked death penalty cases, creating a "speedy" course of appeals and limited the number and types of appeals. Further, because of Texas's need for speed, they've put more money and more time into litigating every possible cause so nothing is a case of first impression, for the most part, anymore.

IL, on the other hand, has a moratorium on the death penalty, and a new death penalty law. I'd wager that the first execution in IL is at least 20 years out. CA doesn't have the attorneys to handle post conviction issues. They've cut the funds available for those defense attorneys, so very few attorneys are willing to take those cases. Consequently, there's a huge backlog of cases, and most DR inmates will die of natural causes, rather than the needle. CA and a few other states also mandate that the needle be inserted by a physician. So far, the AMA has said that any physician directly aiding in the execution of a human being is acting against the Hippocratic Oath, and should lose his license. TX doesn't require needle insertion by a physician, and EMTs and others not bound by Hippocrates regularly do the insertions.

Make sense? The speed of executions depends on the jurisdictions of offense. TX will get you there fastest. There has yet to be a military execution even with people on military death row for 30 years. Politics and money, politics and money.

Oh, and VA I think has the fastest turn around of something like 18 months and execution for a suicide by execution. So, while TX will kill you quickest, you can still suicide by execution in just about any jurisdiction other than IL, CA, and the military (and the 30+ states that don't have the death penalty)

I understand that michael was executed over a year ago. But, like many others, i saw Michael's face on the new series on investigation discovery. I had not seen into the abyss prior to this. While i was watchin, i asked myself what in the world could he have done? Either i cant read people well or he looked like a good guy! I actually have spent so much time researching and reading and i am heartbroken. Living in a state that does not allow capital punishment, it is not something that i think about often as it has never affected me.
Since i have begun to read about michael i found out hes the same age as my fiance, and we have two children together. I didnt know michael even though i feel as though i really know and understand michael.
I know how much you must be hurting, and i wish i wouldve known, maybe one more voice wouldve made the difference. I do understand that he was extremely brave and from the letters and legal documents i read that he has written i can see he was very bright. Im sorry. And i offer all my condolences. i understand it is a touchy subject but if i can at all be of any help spreadong awareness etc i will be more than happy to do so.
This story has greatly affected my life as i think about it everyday.
