Smile Any News about Prison Reform bill and a Grandfather Clause?

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know if the Prison Reform Bill will put into effect a Grandfather Clause or a retroactive clause for this bill. My husband is at Kirkland on a nonviolent, Breach of Trust charge. He is a first time offender as well. He will max out in Sept. 2011. I am praying that this bill will help him max out earlier and come home sooner. I cannot find any information or details on this bill that is clear. Its all so confusing and frustrating. If anyone has any information that can help, please reply. I would be so grateful.

I pray for all our loved ones everyday. I hope they come home as soon as possible. I hope this bill will help our loved ones inside and all of us on the outside. I know we just have to wait and be patient. One day at a time, I know...
My best to you all..

Many Blessings are coming your way,
Magnolia 17

God Bless all of you!!

Sorry to say Magnolia 17 but the bill is not retroactive. The only way it may help our loved ones that are already in is by when they go up for parole they supposedly have a better chance of getting it. I'm sorry to say that but believe I wish it was different to. My fiancee goes up for parole in Dec and his max out date is June 2011. AS u stated above I pray for all of our loved ones also. I hope and pray everything is going ok for youe loved one, Nikki

Default Sentence reform

At long last, the bill that we thought would be an early release bill, but turned out to be sentence reform was signed in June 2010. Those of us with loved ones that had non-violent crimes were very disappointed to find out that this did not affect those already incarcerated before the bill was signed. Then there were rumors that some non-violent offenders would receive 6mos. off their sentences in Jan. 2011. It's still early, but as of yet no one has heard of or seen it written any place. Also it was said that the bill would give those going up for parole a better chance of making it. I guess that meant a better chance to make back to the prison they came from. A better chance of being disappointed AGAIN. I thought that the sentence reform was to help non-violent offenders, especially with drug charges find other options other than being in prison. I know someone personally who had a marijuana charge that was sentenced to three years. Ok, so maybe it's only me If there is anyone out there who has benefitted from this "SENTENCE REFORM" I would love to know about it.

Yea, ur right. It is still early. It's just that you hear so much and don't know what really is going on. They certainly don't let the inmates know what's going on. Then too, my Hubby says that a group of guys from his dorm went up for parole and only one made it. This inmate was old and sick. They let him go so the state wouldn't have to pick up the tab (which I heard that too, that they would show special consideration to elderly and sick). Thanks for responding

Thanks to Jac Mac and all of you nice people who share my same questions and uncertainies and frustrations. I was just wondering if the rumor that was going around, that nonviolent offenders may get 6 months off their max out date, beginning in Jan. With a new Governor, I guess all this takes time with all the changes in staff. My Husband is in Kirkland. He is a 1st time, nonvilent, offender in prison for a Breach of Trust charge. He has a max out date of Sept. 1st so I guess we will have to wait to see if anything will happen as far as an early release and/or six months taken off his release date. All we have is a commomn bond between us all and we just have to keep our Faith. If anyone has any information or knows where I can find any new info about this early release bill, please drop me a line. I have looked everywhere for any new info. Thank you so very much for everyone on this site. I wish all of you, your families and your loved ones, the best of luck to all of you. Thank you all for your open hearts and being there for me on this site just when I needed the most. I hope with all my heart, that I have done the same for all of you... Please post me a reply if you have any info on The Early Release thing, or any place I can get any information. It would mean so much! It would so appreciated. Best of luck to everyone and thank you all for your uncoditional love and support. My best to all of you and you families, chidren and loved ones on the inside. Keep the Faith!! God Bless all you! With Love and many blessings coming your way. My love to all......
Sincerely,
Magnolia 17

there supposed to vote on it next week..well to let the prisons go over budget till june..or to either close 2 prisons..or let some non violents out..but of course everything takes time..so whatever they do might not even help us. oh..and I read nikki opposes early release of inmates.

My husband has been in the system for sixteen months and still has seven years left, we are following the appeal process because he was wrongfully convicted. Is there anyone else that suffers with this injustice? If he actually committed the crimes than I would have some peace of mind ( not happy but could understand how we are where we are). Everyone says that it will get easier but everyday it gets more and more difficult. Everyday I try to keep it together for my kids but it is becoming very hard to do. I have shut myself off from everyone and weel I try to keep it together for him also. Any suggestions? I thought about a therapist, don't want any anti-depressants.
I can't seem to break free from it its like I'm obsessed with the case and finding someone to help bring him home. Every hour of everyday that is what I think about we have been married for twenty years and never seperated, typical family life.
Now I'm completely lost in translation.

My husband goes up for parole Sept. of next year but im not holding my breath. If ANYONE finds out something please let me know.

This sentence reform is exactly what you said it is...." double talk " me and my husband have come to the conclusion to let it be what it's gonna be. The one thing we know is that he will max out in 2012. All this wait and see will literally drive you crazy. But what are ya gonna do.....they belong to the state and until they are released there's really nothing we can do.

Its sad but very true what you said. My husband no longer belongs to me an our daughter but to tha state. Im trying my best to not let this turn me into a bitter person but every day a part of me fades away an is replaced with anger an hatred.

Many thanks to the tens of thousands of American's who supported H.R. 1475 in the 111th Congress. Although the bill did not pass, it is not the last hurrah for federal good time legislation. FedCURE announces The Sentencing Reform Act of 2011 and The Barber Amendment. Please continue to contact your Congresspersons urging them to sponsor FedCURE's proposals in 112th Congress.
SECOND LOOK: Introducing The Sentencing Reform Act of 2011 ~ A Bill to establish a hybrid system of parole, increased good time allowances and reentry opportunities; repeal mandatory sentencing; and establish a 1 to 1 sentencing ratio for crack and powder cocaine for federal offenders.

Note: The Sentencing Reform Act of 2011 has not been introduced. FedCURE is seeking bipartisan support for the bill in the 112th Congress.

I'm past the point of anger. This has driven me crazy. I haven't seen my husband in almost 3yrs. It's complicated so I dare not try to explain it. I know it's hard to get ur hopes up only to be let down. All I do is pray and take it one day at a time. Let's keep our heads up.
