Hi,

Since you had some specific visitation questions for a New Jersey prison, I have moved this thread to the New Jersey forum on PTO so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions, and won’t get lost in the busy Visitation forum... I’ve found they often get more and better answers there, AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too.

You also might want to thumb thru the New Jersey forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/for...s=&forumid=157

Hope you find the info you're looking for and good luck!

Lys

Question Please help...need help with visits at Southern State

My ex boyfriend just got sent to Southern State in NJ and I'm going to see him on Saturday. I've called the prison numerous times and the people who pick up the phone are very rude and act like they can't help me. All I want to know is what type of clothing you can or cannot wear and what we are able to leave in the lockers (ex., cell phone or face from radio). I'm driving 2 1/2 hours to get there and I don't want to be turned away when I get there. If anyone has any info, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks so much!!!!

I am sorry, but I know nothing about NJ visiting. I do know that when I would visit my husband, I ALWAYS had 2 changes of clothes in the car. I just never knew what C.O. would be in what mood, so I tried to have extra things in the car. I am not sure about cell phones, etc. I just never brought any of that stuff with me. I left it all in my car. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but I am SURE someone will come a long and be able to answer and help you. GOOD LUCK and have a wonderful visit.

I appreciate you guys getting back to me. The change of clothes is a great idea, thanks! I'm gonna just leave everything in the car and just wear a t-shirt and jeans. I don't think you can go wrong with that...but thanks again!

Hi! Angel good thing to bring a change of clothes. I would find out if you can wear jeans. I know here in Arizona we cannot wear any denim blue. But I have been told black jeans are fine so go figure. Hope you have a good visit.

Dress conservative--nothing sleeveless [some prisons in NJ have this rule] and nothing seductive. I always try and where jeans and a loose tee shirt or blouse; make sure the tee shirt is not one that advertises beer or makes a political statement-in other words nothing provocative, period!!! SS has an outdoor area [at least they did a few years ago]; I was able to bring in a sealed pack of cigarettes and could then smoke outside [don't know if they still allow this or not]. When I was visiting there back in 1999 there were lockers but many of them were broken. I never put anything much in those lockers except car keys and a coat. I locked everything in the trunk of my car.

You should be fine--make sure you take ID w/photo [driver's license, school ID, work ID]--and make sure you are on his visiting list. If you are not on his approved list, you can plan on being sent home without a visit....

Angel,

Don't wear any type of open shoe. Most of the prisons do not allow them. Your top can not be see through at all. You must have sleeves, nothing low cut and the top you wear must stay at your waist when you raise your arms.

Default SSCF visits

Hello! I am hoping to visit one of my young people at SSCF this month but I have never visited someone who is in one of the compounds--only someone who was in the trailers and I ended up in the big visiting hall with AC and stuff. I know that in the compounds you flip flop between morning or afternoon depending on the day...Is it a different area in the prison? If so, where in relation to the big visiting hall is it? (I don't want to be wandering around like a dork when I get there...)Is it air conditioned? Do they limit your time? Best time to arrive? Any info would be helpful!

I am not sure what trailers and visiting hall you are talking about but my man was in compound A and those are also trailers. You must mean the camp. The visiting hall in Compound A is not air conditioned. At least it wasn't when he was there. When you get to the entrance to the prison just go to the parking lot and there is a little thing like a bus stop. That is where you go to wait for the guard in the tower to tell you when you can go in and register. There should be plenty of people there waiting that will show you where to go. The visits there were great when I went there. Good luck.

Hello Everyone,

My boyfriend is at Southern State Correctional Facility and I will be visiting him for the first time this weekend. I was wondering if anyone had any info on the visits. I have never done this before and am a little nervous. So I was wondering what to expect. What can I wear or not wear? How early should I get there? And any other info that I should know. Thank you guys in advance for all of your help.
