A War Story

A battle rages daily and men fall to the ground,
Broken lives, and shattered dreams and horror all around,
Exploding noise and deafened ears, eyes hurting from the light,
No bloodier war was ever fought with no victory in sight,
Caged in by the enemy, a bitter angry foe,
In rage and frustration, fearing theyll never let you go,
Who declared this insanity on ordinary men,
Who decides who lives or dies, how and also when?
What brought good men to battle for their very lives,
Leaving behind children, mothers, lovers, wives,
Was the crime fitting the punishment, brutal bloody dirty rough,
For gods sake stop this madness havent they had enough
Therer is no victor, no heroes, no medals and no gain
No marching band to welcome home the soldier in the rain

Battles are fought in a courtroom, in a field or on a beach
No winners, justice or honour here and the truth is out of reach
Just long and lonely years wasted in a room they call "your cell"
Forgotten by family and friends since that awful day he fell
Facing a roomful of accusing eyes that truth meant nothing to
And given 18 years for something that he could never do,


And when mercifully its over and the broken can walk free
Not from a war against another land,
But from a state prison in his own country.
