Oh! Krog! I am so sorry! You have been such a loving and attentive and patient daughter and friend and care-taker. I do hope that B can get a furlough! Please do let me know if I can do anything to help out! Feel free to text me, day or night. Really. I am sending my warmest thoughts...

Karen: I'm going to miss him too, your descriptions of his life were so engaging and real, I feel like i knew him. Good that you have your family and friends to be with you.

re: rules, generally furloughs are only given for immediate family members, didn't know about this particular timing rule, but it never hurts to ask, especially considering he lived with you. If I can provide any technical info. for the furlough request, PM me.

Thinking of you and your family today. B

((((((((((((((((Krogs))))))))))))))) indeed a sad day. Tears welled up in my eyes. I'm so glad you have family and friends surrounding you. May he rest in peace, I like the others will miss his stories.

Hi all, Made all funeral arrangements today. I'm so in the wrong business. A 3-1/2 hour wake is costing $6200. It is $1200 to rent a casket as my Dad will be cremated. I'm doing what his generation expected - a wake and food (that will be another Thousand). I told our daughter that when we die just put us on a float and let us drift off to sea or lake and then have a big party! Funerals just have to change! It shouldn't cost $10,000 to die. But, not to worry, Medicare pays $325!

Krog, your father sounds like such a sweet man. I love the note. It mattered so much to him to "get it right." Your experiences with the viewing/funeral arrangements reminds me of this exceptional book by Jessica Mitford called The American Way of Death, which is a scathing critique of the funeral industry.

I am in the motel lobby, having just dropped-off J's mother at visiting -- today is her day. I always make him break the news to her that I get two days and she only gets one, but she's smart and "gets it," regardless. Still, I feel badly, but we learned early-on that going in together or even on the same day in shifts is just too much for him to negotiate. We had a good visit yesterday. It was sunny and warm here and I wore these really swanky brown suede platform sandals (first open-toed shoe day of the season!) with Cherries Jubilee polish. Today, though, there are supposed to be tornadoes here. I still do not think that I will ever grow accustomed to the racial politics down here or its manifestations in the BOP. It all seems so backwards. J and I talk about it a lot. I think that's how he manages to function. Plus he has developed "tricks" to make some of the worst bigots become marginally more accepting of difference.

His drawing class is going really well. He says he's surprised at how much respect the students in the class are affording him. He also says that they literally "glow with pride" when he praises their work. He says that they are so accustomed to being torn-down and belittled that even the smallest words of encouragement make an enormous difference. The class is supposed to be an hour, but the 12 students petitioned to change it to 2 hours and the Rec. guy agreed. J set-up still lifes in the art room that they are working from and has them "warm up" with quick exercises like blind contour drawings, 2-minute sketches, etc. before sustained work. He had to construct things for the still lifes because everything there is white styrofoam or clear plastic. So he made and painted paper-mache fruit and flowers and fabricated other objects to try to make it more interesting. He is just such a patient and giving person...I just knew that he would be a good teacher!

Now I am sitting here in the breakfast room getting ready to grade student papers and watching all the families get ready to go to visitation...

Krog...I hope the funeral went smoothly. Thinking of you!

CG...J sounds like a great art teacher. I was always more affected by the art teachers in school, I always felt they had more knowledge and they weren't just teaching us from a book. Reading about J's class makes me want to take a course or two of his. LOL. Imagine me calling the BOP to ask if I could take the class. HAHAHAHA.

Where is everyone??? I come on everyday to read up on you ladies and today I was like wait a minute...it's been DAYS!!!

I know, I know, everyone must be caught up in the NBA Playoffs!!!! Yes? Maybe not but I'M LOVING IT!!! Go BULLS!!!! PLEASE GO BULLS!!! PLEASE! LOL.

I hope everyone is well.

Hey CSMC: I'm not really following NBA but I am following the Stanley Cup hockey playoffs. GO REDWINGS!! It would be nice to see the Bulls back on top again but mostly would like to see the Lakers go down.

Mel!! Good to hear from you. Give that Lil D a tickle for me.

Hi, all. I am new on this site. I have been caught up in my woes and forgot my blessings for a while.
Krog, I am sorry for your loss. It is difficult to cut yourself into pie pieces and do all things I know you are doing right now. I will be praying for you.

Being carless due to an accident and phoneless due to my phone going crazy, making phone calls for me and not letting me do the calling to who I want, and living so far away from my friends and my church have made these last 2 1/2 weeks extremely difficult. I emaile my husband and told him that I have had a glimpse of how things are for him and it makes me appreciate his situation in Butner.

So, help me get out of this rut and start counting my blessings. the rest will come!
thanks for letting me share

Fortunately, the male eagle has just returned to the nest to feed the chicks... The two eagles were nine-year mates.

Oh no - not the mama eagle!!!! Poor little chicks! These are the eagles I've been watching every day... I hadn't tuned in today .... awwww....

Welcome Faith!

I also have to say that I am so annoyed that every time I come on this site and post just one post, I get this message that I have to wait 30 second between posts - when it's actually been like 7 hours since I last posted. Grrrr!

It sure i quite in here!

I just completed Ds online monthly report. No more paper reports, no more running to the post office for 1 stamp. Just go to keep my cp in running order!

D got a letter from Austin on friday stating his drivers lic was being suspended for driving without a lic. He called them to find out WTH was going on. He supposedly got a ticket in 12/09.....while he was still in prison! He went to the judges office herewhere he "got" this ticket and they have no record of it. They are going to call Austin to see whats going on.

Dani went to her Drs on friday. Shes 9lbs9oz 22inches long. Looonnnggg and skinny! She has to take meds for acid reflux, cream for blocked tear duct (whatcaused the pink eye). Her eye drains tears constantly. Her formula also got changed to help with acid reflux and spit up. The only powdered formula WIC will pay for has been recalled so they gave her the ready to use that has to be kept cold after opened. On one hand its easier to make bottles but a pain when we have to go somewhere. So if you see a woman with baby and cooler in tow, hollar at me LOL.
