Default Intro--Drbrowne from North Carolina

Hi everyone. I have NO IDEA where to start? I am new to this, and to be honest I guess like hundreds of others, still crying my eyes out? Trying to be strong for my sweetheart, but he is actually taking it a million times better than I am. He will be somewhere outside of Fayetteville, NC? And really I am just down RIGHT SCARED. So please forgive me if I say something crazy? I just simply dont know where to start, how to cope or anything. Normally I am very positive and upbeat, and happy go lucky, but...I guess it still hasnt settled with me. I dont know. Let me leave well enough alone for now. All I can imagine is like the show OZ on HBO, and that scares the living DAY lights out of me. *SIGH* Help? Thank you in advance.

First things first, Breathe! Welcome to the Roller oaster of Emotions...and welcome to PTO. Try to stay busy and write him often, and remember that its ok to cry if/when ya need to; be mad if/when ya need to. Forget all that stuff you see on TV, they tend to only show the violent stuff and none of the boring day-to-day stuff that is the norm. For state/facility specific information, you may want to check out the forum for North Carolina.

I remember being over-whelmed by the size of the site when I first came to PTO. So here are some "tips" to help ya out:

If you scroll down the
Forum Index, you'll see all the forums we have available, many of which will pertain to you & your situation. Be sure to scroll allll the way to the bottom and back up, just to see all the forums we do have.

Click on the forum title to enter the forum, then click on a thread title to read that thread.

Reply by either typing your reply into the "Quick Reply" box or click on “Go Advanced” at the bottom of the thread. To quote the post you are replying to, click on the “reply” button at the bottom of that individual post. To subscribe to a thread, use "Go Advanced" and there is th eoption to subscribe beneath the reply box.

To create a new thread, look at the top of the thread list in any forum for a button marked "New Thread", click on that and it will open a window where you can give your thread a title and type up what you want to say or ask.
When you are done, click near the bottom where it says "Submit New Thread" and your thread will be posted.

***If you ever have trouble finding a post you made, go to the upper right corner of the screen and click on your name. This will take you to your profile.
Then choose "Statistics", in that screen, click on "Find all posts by..." and you'll get a list of all of your posts/threads***

Lastly, for now, if you ever get a message saying that your post or thread has been moved, all you have to do is click on the thread title within that message and you'll go right to the new location of your thread or post.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to pm me or any other Moderator

1st - There are many here in your situation and those that have already been through exactly what you are going through now. Me - I'm a NC state employee working at Wayne Correctional Center in Goldsboro NC (about an hour South of Raleigh)

2nd - Look through the Family and Friends Handbook: http://www.doc.state.nc.us/Publicati...10Handbook.pdf

3rd - You can keep track of where he is at with the Offender Search: http://webapps6.doc.state.nc.us/opi/...do?method=view
Put in his name or just his prison number.

4th - Welcome to PTO! I stay within the NC Forum answering questions about NC prisons.

Hey,I think that you are talking about Hoke CI. My husband just left there. He said that its pretty good there. Its laid back because its minimum(spell check) and no one wants lose that status. I hope that this helps.
