I grew up in Texas but now live in NYC where I'm a writer, producer & publicist for stand up comedians.

Just a few weeks after I turned 17, my deaf dad assaulted my mom over the course of several hours -- an event in which I intervened. My father was sentenced to probation and fell into a life of heavier drinking and drug use.

He is now serving a 20 year sentence in Texas for the attempted murder of his third wife. His unit houses the most deaf inmates in the country (anywhere from 90 to 110), but he often complains of discrimination when it comes to how the Deaf are treated.

I write a blog called Love, Daddy about growing up in the woods of Texas with my Deaf family and my ongoing relationship with my father. I have a memoir being published sometime in late 2011 with Random House also titled Love, Daddy.

So, that's me in a nutshell, I guess. I've read this forum for years but for some reason never posted till today. Thanks for being a great forum and resource for so many people.
