Hi, my better half is thinking of asking for a transfer to Ironwood. He is currently at CTF in Soledad. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any reasons he should not transfer to ISP... I know they are all bad, but we've definitely learned that some are worse than others! Thank you. (He's on an SNY yard)

As far as I can tell, ISP is pretty mellow compared to some other prisons.

My son is on the Level 3 SNY yard. He's glad to be at Ironwood. Also, B (the SNY level 3 yard) is rarely on lockdown. Processing is pretty smooth for visit too.

But he is for sure going to land at ironwood, anyhow my question is anyone know what is going on with the new level 4 SNY yard? Like I know there in orientation right now but does anyone know if the yard will open up for them quickly or are there still GP men on the yard waiting to move?

My husband maybe being transferred there and I was wondering if anyone could give me information on what if any educational programs they may have? Also, he is currently taking classes through coastline college and I was wondering if anyone knows if they have a proctor for test taking and such? I'm just hoping and praying that if they transfer him there, it won't affect his educational program and goals.

What is the town of Blythe like? How far from the prison? Are there nice hotels? apartment complexes?

Looks like we may be calling this place home for awhile. I hope not, but looks that way.

Hello M.Nava,

Thank you so much for responding and so promptly. I really appreciated it. I sure do feel better now having that clarified.

Maybe you know too or somebody else might know, how long orientation is taking at the moment. I know that it can be anything up to 3 months but wondering if anybody who has just moved there has any recent info on how it's going there right now.

Thank you to all.

All the best to everyone and Happy Valentine's day with your loved ones.

it took hubby less than 14 days to go through orientation. He arrived and I'd say with in 11 days he was off orientation. He went through really quickly. Hopefully it's that quick for your loved one as well. Hang in there..

Default Duration in orientation

Thanks to both of you for the info'. I'll go with the 11 days! Already too long without hearing his voice.

I will be coming over to visit as soon as I get word that he is off orientation - anxious to receive news.....

Does anybody know of any local taxi companies that are reliable and are willing to go to Ironwood and wait in line? Can only find one on the Internet - Morelocks. Does any one have any reference of them? Maybe not allowed to talk about that on here? Sorry if not .....

Another question - sorry about this - do the Friends Outside have a van and do a pick up? They do where we were before but don't know if that's the case all over.

Thank you again - for your help. Thank goodness for all of you and this site.

Hi Imelda, welcome to Ironwood.
If you want to visit while he's in orientation, it would only be one hour behind glass and you'd need to make an appointment. If I were you, I'd wait until you can have a regular visit... it will only be a few weeks! They follow the dress code, but I wouldn't say it's overly strict. Was there something specific in the dress code your were wondering about? There are a lot of helpful ladies here, so if you have any questions, just ask!
