Unfortunately he is now farther away then before Not having a reliable car makes it even more difficult since I have to spend lots of money on a rental. But no distance is too far for me to travel to see the love of my life. I will be sure and make an appointment before I head up there. It's been a while since my last contact visit since he was in Reception waiting to be moved. As far as phone calls go hopefully he will start some type of program so he can call often. Thanks again for answering my questions I really appreciate it!

You're welcome. Remember, you can only call on Mondays between 10:00am-1:00pm to make an appointment; and the appointment is for two weeks (well almost two weeks!) from when you called. Hope you can afford a rental (and the $gas$ to fill it) soon so you can visit.

Oh wow I didn't know that I guess I will have to wait till next Monday to make an appointment. I was really hoping to go next weekend. Are they able to get visits as soon they get there? And if so are they contact visits? If I'm going to spend the money to go see him I want to make it worth while and be able to touch him.

Baby's Girl, I'd go by myself the first time regardless, if I were you, and if you have someone able to watch the children. I've been visiting J for a while now, and I just took my daughter for the first time yesterday. It certainly was easier to already know what to expect (though I was still stressing out. I'm a mom!)

Also keep in mind when you call to make an appointment, keep calling until you get a person. The recorded messages is usually old, and a lot of people are calling, so it takes several tries. One girl awhile back gave me the advice to hang up after 4 or 5 rings (rather than letting it ring forever), and that seems to work the best. It is a pain, but having the appointment certainly is worth it.

Thank you bunniRidge I think I will go alone the first time I visit him. I'm a real anxious person especially under new situations If I take my boys and I find myself puzzled as to what or where I need to go then I will end up having a panic attack lol! Once I learn how things work in there then I will feel comfortable enough to take my boys.

Hi lovinganinmate, to the Ironwood Forum. Since he got there on the 1st, he should be off orientation any day now! Hopefully he'll get a chance to call you very soon.
Take care, and be sure to ask when you have some other questions.

Hi TaraIsabelle! Welcome to Ironwood. Let me answer a few of your questions!
Phone Calls -- He'll be in orientation for a few weeks and won't be able to use the phone until he gets off orientation; it usually takes about 2 weeks. Then they shoudl let him use the phone. How often he can call will depend on his status. If he's in a program, school or has a job, he'll be able to use the phone twice a day! If no, he can only make two calls a month between the 1st and 10th. So, hopefully he'll get in some type of program, job or school. If you have Verizon or AT&T, he'll be able to receive calls on your home phone, if not, then you'll have to set up an account with GTL before you get any calls from him. If you want him to call your cell, you must set up an account before he receives any calls, regardless of who your carrier is. Here's the threads if you do need to set up an account GTL Q&A for LANDLINE Phones GTL Q&A for CELL Phones

Visiting -- Were you already approved at Wasco? If so, your visiting transfers, but if you were still in the process of being approved, you'll have to start all over again. Visiting is Saturday & Sunday; if you have an appointment they start at 8:30. If you don't have an appointment they start processing non appointments at 10:00am. Visiting is over at 3:00pm so you'll get a nice long visit. Check out the Ironwood Visiting Thread , there is a lot of helpful information. http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520421

Family Visits -- I don't know much about family visits, your husband will have to apply for them and then send you the information.
If you have more questions, just ask!

Are all buildings usually on lockdown? What are the most common buildings always on lockdown? My husband transfered here a few days ago. Wanna know the scoop on this building! Anyone?

Wow thank you! Can I visit him while he's on orientation? How soon can he get a job or school? Where can I research the programs? Ahh I can't wait to speak with him!

I'm pretty sure you have to have an appointment to visit someone in orientation. And it would only be one hour behind glass , If he calls, then you'll know he's off and it won't matter if you have an appointment. I hope you can see him soon! As far as a job or school, that's something he'll have to look into. They have a GED program if he hasn't graduated and also some correspondence college classes he can take. And I hope you can speak with him soon too. It's such a comfort to hear their voice and know they are okay.

Hi again! You'll be happy to know that Ironwood doesn't have a lot of lockdowns. Sometimes they won't have program (meaning they have to stay in their cells, no dayroom or yard) because of things like CO training or not enough CO's; but that's not the same as an official Lockdown. And when they are on lockdown, it's usually by Yard, not building. The Yards are A,B,C,D and the buildings within the yards are 1-5. For example if his address says B3, he'd be on Yard B, building 3. I hope that makes sense to you! I think your husband will be glad he's at Ironwood...except for the heat. It gets REALLY HOTduring the summer.

Hello everyone! My husband just transferred from Donovan with 148 days left of 7 years! So excited. Just going to have an uneventful time and pass it quickly. Thought I'd stop by and say hi!

Thanks! We are counting down the days. I just couldn't believe they moved him so close to the end. I hate having to learn a new place. We'd gotten rather comfortable. :-)

I had the most amazing time this weekend with my husband and son. It was touch with our 9 month old but so worth it. We have not been able to touch or kiss in 8 months and my husband hasn't held his son since he was 6 weeks old. It was nice having 6 hours a day to kiss and hold eachother. I'm so incredibly happy. I pray we can get family visits soon! Ahhh

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure where to ask this but I want to send my bf money and I was wondering if I can do that online. Also, what writing supplies can I send, and how much, can I send him?
