Yes the visiting rooms are pretty big tables in the middle vending machines on the right and a play area with tv to ur left by the patio where there's more tables outside...for the kids they have a chest of toys my daughter only likes the blocks though and games..you give them ur ID to hold and they'll give you a board game or Jenga and things like that

Default Newbie Here

Hello Everyone, I'm to ISP, my fiance just got transferred today from CCI Tehachapi (Reception). I feel so nervous and antsy, I've been reading and getting info from this thread as much as I can but still have a few questions.

So I'm planning on calling tomm to get his housing info and I know he will be in orientation for about 2 wks. My first question is are they allowed to receive mail in orientation? Should I send him a stationary pack/letters right away? Will they give him his own stuff he brought from CCI right away?

Also, should I already go ahead and set up an GTL account so I'll be ready for his first phone call?? Sooooo exciting, haven't had a phone call or visit in 4 months!!

From what I've also read/heard once they hit their mainline prisons it gets better, they are more "free" and stuff??

Sorry for all the questions, I just feel so lost. nervous and excited. I had finally gotten used to CCI and now have to learn the new ways of ISP. I have heard good things about Ironwood and am looking forward to getting to know my fellow ladies in waiting

Many Thanks!!

Hey! My man isnt at ironwood but I can answer some of these questions for you. Yes you should send a writing package right away and write. I'm sure he will be happy to hear from you. Sometimes they do not receive their property right off the bus or have to go to the hole until they have a bed.

Yes set up an account with GTL as soon as possible so he can start calling. =)

Why Thank You for responding!!!
Very sweet of you to respond eventhough your man isn't at ISP. Thank you for all the pointers, I faxed over the paperwork for GTL just waiting for them to set it up and also sent him a stationary pack.
You rock

Will PM op, BUT still wanted to respond here for anyone else who may have these same questions...

1.) Ironwood runs by BOTH appointments & walk ups. Appointments are made 2 weeks in advance. (at visiting, if you're there on a sat you'd make an appt for the sat 2 weeks away. If you go on a sun, you'd make one for 2 sun away). By phone, it would be 2 Mondays in advance, by calling 1.760.921.3000 ext 5803. IF you do not have an appt., they allow walk-ins after 10am.

2.) Lately I've seen them turn ppl away to change. But i've seen skinny jeans everywhere && low cut blouses. you can still look cute, just no see-thru clothes or short skirts/dresses. (always have an extra outfit or two, just in case).

3.) They allow 1 (one) of each jewelry piece. ex: 1 necklace, 1 marriage ring set, 1 necklace, 1 bracelet, etc. (no body piercing tho). && everything you take in must be written on the back of your visitor's pass.

Cool! My guy just got here but from what I've read it's a pretty okay prison, everybody says good things about it. But it's still a prison and our loved ones are away from us

We will see how it goes...

Hi Julia, my name is Nikki. My fiancé just got transferred to ISP just a week ago. He was at CCI reception before, so he's further away from me too. Sucks big time

Do you remember how long orientation was for your fiancé? I haven't heard from mine yet and I'm starting to get annoyed

Usually orientation (anywhere) can last up to 10 days. If it's been longer, just know that Ironwood is not running phones daily right now, so this could be the reason you haven't heard from him. Or, he hasn't been able to sign up for a call. Hopefully you get a letter soon. You might want to call the prison tomorrow and try to get his housing info.

make sure to call cause they r on lockdown at least majority of them are... Well dress code same as any other no short skirts or dresses no green, no jeans no plain white shirts. No orange, no tank tops u can call the number..for ironwood... Its easier if u also make an appointment to visit... They have.a few things that the lil ones can do but they have to stay sitting majority of the time which sucks... Well hope u have a safe drive n a gd visit... If u always remember to dress conservite u will hsve no problems getting in for your visit.. Hope u get to see your loved one...

Thanks, I have an appointment for sat and sunday at 9 am. My daughter is only going to go on sunday, saturday will just be our alone time then sunday she will come as well. Do you know about jewelry? I bought these awesome earings but i dont think they will let me wear them. Not to sure, it says one pair of earings but i dont know if its only supposed to be studs or if it can be like long earings, they are wings with dangly stuff on them. most likely not. i keep trying on clothes to debate whether or not i should wear it, see i see my brother all the time and i dont really care what i wear but this is my boyfriend so i want to look hot. but its so nerve racking! IM so nervous!!
