Hello. My 30-year-old son has to do what's left of his 87 month sentence in federal prison. He was listed on the prisoner locator as "in transit." The snows delayed his transfer to Texas (Beaumont) from Michigan (state jails). Now the location says that he is "not in BOP custody" He can't be out -- what does this mean? Thanks - and thanks for this site!

AHHH this is the worst the not knowing, we have all been there and it will be over soon. I think the snow took out the computer programer's ability to follow through with the proper keys to type? It will be cleared up soon the transition and when will the next one come? Hopefully he will get moved for a posative reason and it will be in a timely manner .

Hello and welcome fellow PA mom! My son hasn't been sentenced yet so I don't know anything about transfers and such. It sounds like calling will be a help, maybe you'll get some info!

Hang in there. My son was moved just little over 200 miles and it took him 3 days or so because they stop at different facilities to pick up and drop off more while going to their final desitination.

Welocme to PTO~ the not knowing is the very hardest part of all of this. I'd call the prison he just left from and find out what they know? I'm sure they know where they were sending him! Stick around here and you will get a lot of support from parents who understand what you are dealing with~ it helps.

If he is Federal they will process him thru Oklahoma City and other places. He should be there soon. With this bad weather he is being held in a Jail until they can transport him to Texas. Check the BOP web site for his name.

Thanks for all the ideas and hugs, my new friends. My so is still in Michigan (7 weeks in this last jail), and there's another storm brewing for Texas. Rats! The kicker is that he's deaf and needs to use a TTY for communication. Clinton County jail does not have one, nor do they care about getting one, even though it is the law that a deaf prisoner is to have one if they need one. My son has been locked up for 10 months now - in state prisons, which means there hasn't been a lick of treatment for either of his addictions. Dang, I had to fight for 6 weeks to get him hearing aid batteries! I've learned that there's not much at all I can do to work with the system. Maybe once he gets with the feds, things will be a little better...

LOL - I check the BOP site twice a day (got it on my bookmark bar!) -- now my son "Is not in BOP custody". That seemed to change the last time I called the Marshals to see what was going on. Go figure.

My son just told me that all the people that came in the van with him to the jail have already been transferred to Texas and Olahoma. I wish I knew why he was the only one left! I'll try to call the Marshals again Monday. SOO frustrating...
