When you go to traffic school it removes it from your record. So unless you have more points that your not telling us then your fine.

I did pizza delivery and with my current job, two points your fine... any more and your SOL.

So slow it down

I hope that's the case but I'm still scared. Thanks for your help, and yes I know I need to slow down lol I cannot stand going the speed limit, it is just sooooo slow! But I guess I better start obeying the law or I'll be screwed.

Well for sure your insurance will be sky high! If you can't slow down, at least look around for cops!

You should be able to hire a lawyer to reduce it to a non-moving violation!

I'm usually really good about spotting cops and slowing down when I see 'em, this time I seen him coming towards me from the other direction so I slowed down, but he still pulled me over once he passed me and said I was going 71...I thought they can only catch you if you pass them? Guess not tho!

I won't even be able to afford this ticket, I doubt I will be able to afford a lawyer!

I know where I live, there are law firms specially for speeding tickets...they charge pretty much flat rates, unless its a really high over the limit ticket. Like 50 bucks or so. At least call around. You might be surprised!

I've been looking into this, so thank you for giving me the idea! Do you know any reliable traffic lawyers in CA? Because I've been googling a few and I just can't tell which ones are scams...

Sorry I have no idea about Cali! I know the cheap places by me have names like Traffic Law Center...well that's the only one I can think of. Tell the lawyer that you're only willing to pay for a lawyer if you can get it reduced to a no-point violation. They should be able to tell you up front if that's possible. Some cheap lawyers result in a higher fine thru court, but some still get it done just as well as the expensive ones. Good luck!

It all depends how long ago you attended traffic school, you are allowed traffic school every 18 months. Is the new ticket issued in the same town as your last ticket? If not you ARE eligible for traffic school.

I think the last time I did traffic school it was less than 18 months ago but this new ticket IS in a different county than my last 2, so does this mean I am still eligible for traffic school again!? I hope so!

Default Some counties MAY allow traffic school twice in 18 months

In California, if you have already attended traffic school for a one-point moving violation and you get another ticket, it is possible to attend traffic school again, with a Judge's permission, under California Vehicle Code 41501(a) which states:

Traffic School Attendance

41501. The court may order a continuance of a proceeding against a person, who receives a notice to appear in court for a violation of any statute relating to the safe operation of a vehicle, in consideration for attendance at a licensed school for traffic violators, a licensed driving school, or any other court-approved program of driving instruction, and, after that attendance, the court may dismiss the complaint under the following conditions:
(a) If the offense is alleged to have been committed within 12 months of another offense which was dismissed under this section, the court may order the continuance and, after the attendance, dismiss the complaint. The court may order attendance at a licensed school for traffic violators which offers a program of at least 12 hours of instruction.

(b) If the offense is not alleged to have occurred within 12 months of another offense which was dismissed under this section, the court may order the continuance and, after the attendance, dismiss the complaint if the attendance is at any of the types of schools or programs that the court directed pursuant to Section 42005 at the time of ordering the continuance.

And here's more info:

Is there second offender traffic school in Barstow, California? Recently I got a speeding ticket and the citing officer told me about second offender traffic school. Is there such a thing because I have already taken traffic school this year. How can I remove a point of my record besides traffic school?

The California Department of Motor Vehicles keeps a public record of all your traffic convictions and accidents. Each occurrence stays on your record for 36 months or longer, depending on the type of conviction. The points typically stay with the offense on the record for the 3 years unless you take traffic school to remove them.

You may be considered a negligent operator when your driving record shows any one of the following point count" totals regardless of your license class:

4 points in 12 months
6 points in 24 months
8 points in 36 months

California normally allows for a driver to attend a traffic school once every eighteen months to keep the offense and points from being placed on their driving record. As you know from attending traffic school earlier in the year if you attend traffic school, you pay the regular court fine plus a traffic school fee.

When it is your first time for traffic school within the 18 month period you have to attend an eight-hour course. Some courts will accept a traffic school offered on the Internet.

There is indeed what some have termed a second offender traffic school available in California if you have already attended traffic school for the first time in the 18 month period. Some judges will let you attend this 2nd offender traffic school which is a 12 hour course compare to the first offender traffic school which was only 8 hours.

When the CA court allows you to attend the second offender traffic school the DMV will not access a point against your license. However, insurance companies will know you attended the second offender traffic school and that you must have attended an eight-hour traffic school.

With a first offender traffic school, your ticket is dismissed and neither the offense nor points are added to your driving record or a mention of traffic school. Thus with your first traffic school your insurance company does not find out about your ticket.

When a driver attends a 12-hour second offender traffic school no points are assessed however the fact that you have gone to a 12-hour traffic school for this ticket will become part of their public DMV record and thus your insurance company could become aware of it. It is our understanding that the second offender traffic school shows upon your record as "traffic school" and since insurance companies are aware that the first offender traffic school does not get placed on your record then they know this notation would mean you have taken traffic school twice in 18 months.

If it is the points you are concerned with then you should ask the traffic court in Barstow, California if you can take the second offender traffic school instead of being assessed points. Keep in mind though that your insurance company will then be aware that you have been to traffic school twice in 18 months and depending upon their rating system they may increase your insurance premium.

Not all counties allow second offender traffic school, and for those that do, the course consists of 12 hours (which is sometimes split into two 6-hour segments) of in-class instruction (not online). Check with your county clerk, and/or also Google California second offender traffic school for further info
