"Ideally, they will judge who deserves release based on one yardstick — whether the convict is a threat to the public."

...if only we could count on that... Only time will tell.

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
Supposedly they look at that factor now and they're supposed to be using the assessment tools to do that, but they do tend to ignore the tool when it is convenient for them.
If they go back to the analysis done prior to Engler administration, then the paroles were much higher and more successful.
Again, why do they keep granting parole to some individuals who have already been on parole 4 times before and failed at it?
Yet, in some cases they don't parole an inmate in any case. In fact no second chance at all. In these cases, all of assessment tools read that the inmate is not a threat to public safety, yet no parole.

If someone is not granted a parole because of a class requirement that hasn't been met, then they, by definition are not eligible for release no matter what the ERD is.
They keep granting parole to some individuals who have already been on parole 4 times and fail it because if they violate parole it doesnt mean they have committed new crimes or reoffended affecting all kinds of numbers and statistics.

the commutation and parole board was created to enstill a checks and balances system. Under the previous system there was no requirement for answering questions like "why did i not receive parole" w/ the new (now replaced guidelines) there were more fingers in the pot to hold people accountable.

Lets hope that the politics is taken out of the parole board. Yet, I will believe it when I see it, and I really do want to see it. These are peoples lives and families lives not just cases.
Yet more were paroled, recidivism is down and crime is down. They are putting "our money" where it will do the most good; into re-entry.
