Exclamation Floods at menard!

I recently heard about the floods in Chester, IL. I got very concerned about the safety of our loved ones, so I called the facility. I got a nice officer (suprisingly) and she told me the water levels are still in the parking lot of the MAX Security Building and have not entered the building. I asked what they will do if it does and they have protocol to evacuate the building. She assured me that inmates will not be left in their cells with rising water levels into the building. I know the last flood that caused evacuation of Menard was in '93 and a few inmates were injured or caught illnesses from the wet, cold temperatures. I brought that up and she stated that the inmates safety will be managed. I will continue to follow this to make sure if the levels are high enough they do something to protect our loved ones. She also said the flood has nothing to do with the lockdown. They are on lockdown until an undermined date for other reasons. They do expect more rain tonight and the rain of the Northern States (Iowa ect) that drain in to the Mississippi also have an effect on the flooding. They are at a crest of 38ft above the banks now. Just thought I would share that! EEK! Bless our LO's

Default Thank you for this information

Thank you so much Adrainbaby for this information.
I had no idea that this was going onat Menard.
I will also follow up and find out an update regarding this flood.
I also had not idea that they were on lock down, so thank you for that information also.
That may explains why I have not gotten a call from my LO lately.
I am just sick about this.
Yes we have to keep all of the inmates in our prays.
I pray that one gets sick or injured and that this situation is rectified very soon.

I visited Menard today and the road in front of the parking lot is completely flooded but the parking lot was ok. I got in and out ok. They've been on lockdown for about 2 weeks now for unrelated reasons. We've had rain for one week now and a tornado on Good Friday night. It is still raining but expected to be sunny beginning tomorrow thru the weekend. The guys are all fine so far and I have a guest here at the Hospitality House in Chester going to visit tomorrow so I'll keep you posted about the conditions at Menard. Gayle Ayala

Went to visit yesterday. Kaskaskia Rd is completely closed, so everyone will have to take Holmes Street in the middle of Chester and turn on Fern Valley Road in order to get to the prison.

I tried multiple times to upload pics but wasn't able to. Not sure why.

Sorry the pic is so big. Guess no one will have any problems seeing it though.

Thanks for the pics, we won't be going at all, we have to come in from around red bud, and my husband said he talked to a guy that said they are preparing sand bags. Has any one recieved a phone call from LO from the south house? I really wish my son would call.

Preparing sand bags where? The water really isn't that high at the facility. And despite the flooding, there are still plenty of people visiting. You just have to get there the back way.

My man and a friend of his are both in south house and I got a call from his friend last Saturday, but I haven't received a call from my man. I'm hoping to get a call today.

Just thought I'd post a couple more pics.

This pic is of my son alongside the river 2 weeks ago. He's standing in an area where there is usually water, but the river was lower than normal and had been for quite some time.

I took this pic yesterday and now you can't even see that a road ever existed.

And the river isn't like this in front of the facility. Well, I mean, it is, but the levee is holding it back.

Oooooh, ok. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the flooding isn't too bad there. This rain and flooding has been so devastating to so many areas.

Thanks for posting those pictures, I have now decided that I better wait until the flooding is over before I drive all the way from Chicago. Has anyone gotten a call from the East house lately? It's been about 4 weeks for me

I have not received a call in about 3 weeks from the East house.

Hi Donnie's mom- My husband is in the South House as well and he was supposed to call two weeks ago. They have been on lockdown and cant call. I check everyday to see if they are off; but no luck so far! So frustrating. I just want to hear his voice! I called the other day to get more detail on the lockdown, the officer I talked to said they could be on for a long time. She told me in 2001 they were on lockdown for 1 year straight. Doesnt that seem a bit inhumane?!?!?! I pray they get off soon! I hope you hear from your son! Bless them all!!!

I received a phone call April 23rd. That's the only call I've received since the lockdown began on the 11th. And I would've much rather heard from my man.

I've heard the reason no one has received any phone calls the past couple weeks is because the phone lines are down due to the flooding.

OH MY GOSH no way!! I hate this so miuch I need to hear from my son, as I know you all want to hear from your loved ones, I felt is was something like this, because he would have called if he could. If the mail would run faster there that would be awesome, but sometimes he don't get my letters for almost 3 weeks, that does not make sense, oh well, sure do hope they get the lines fixed fast. Any more news on the flooding? I am going Sunday if I have to swim!!

I heard it has been raining alot there over the last few days and again tomorrow alot. I was supposed to go tomorrow and changed my plans. It's along drive from Chicago to Menard and I will be very sad if I get there and can't get in. I'm going to wait a few weeks until the flooding is over and try and make new plans to drive down. I have sent a letter or card to him everyday since the lockdown to keep his spirits up.

Just got word that the phones are being passed around, but I don't know in which house. Good news is that the phones are working again and hopefully we'll all get phone calls this week.
