Default Columbia Work Camp

Hey everyone.. My hubby is at Columbia Work Camp. Does anyone have love ones there? My hubby states there is alot of racism at that camp and to be honest I didn't want to beleive him until I personally encontoured it myself when I went to visit him. We have been together for 9 years and he has been away for 7 years. Ughhh.. I wish he was closure to home because I miss him soo much and wish to see him more often.. I guess alot of you are going thru the distance thing too... He has 2 longgggggg years too go but it feels so long for me.. Well ladies hope someone out here has someone in the same unit..

I thought there was racism in prison period. Can you be more specific? Racism from the staff? Racism against people in a gang or not in a gang? Racism against particular religious groups? Racism against those who work inside instead of out? It's prison, there are all sorts of issues and conflicts everywhere.

Hi my boyfriend is at the work camp, I am new to this. Do you have any info as far as visitation? I got approved, do I have to call first or do I just go there and give them my ID? Please help me, and thanks in advance! Glad to know I am not alone!

Hi y'all-my son was approved to go over to the work camp so now it's a waiting game as he is still in the mandatory 150 hour schooling program.
Yes,when I first went to visit my son at Columbia Annex I felt the officers were looking at me like I was scum and none of them smiled or was polite in anyway when I asked a few questions.
I just made up my mind that when I spoke to each and everyone I was smiling and very courteous and respectful. And it all paid off for me as I am a frequent flyer at viso now.
As far as viso goes alansgurl, wear conservative cloths no tight jeans-skinny jeans-no more than 50 dollars and take your ID.I know at the Annex and main unit you have to put your hand on a scanner(which is almost always broken) about 5 or 6 times and you will also be given a yellow card with you viso number. You must enter that number into the hand scanner machine at each entry. I take a clear sandwhich baggie to hold my ID the yellow card and one car key and money. I also try to not wear alot of jewelry as you do have to walk through a scanner and also be padded down. All in all after your first viso you'll get the hang of it,just be nice even if everyone else might be grumpy,it will pay off if you plan to visit often. Hope this helped you.
