Notice to new members intending to register - from January 9th 2012

Just wondering. Is it mainly for just improving the website?

Great question, MissBehavinn!

Donations made to PTO are used to help cover monthly hosting expenses, software licensing fees, contracted coding and design work, etc. Thankfully all of our staff members are volunteers so we don't incur additional costs in that area. In the past we've had fundraisers for specific items needed (a server for example) but when you log-in to PTO you probably notice the donation bar near the top of the page. It costs more than 700 dollars a month just to keep the site up and running. We rarely if ever receive that amount in donations which means that David must come out of pocket every month to keep this site going. Such is his commitment to PTO and the reason that we all benefit from the site. Thanks for asking the question. I hope that those who can will be inspired to send a dollar or two. Realistically with the number of active members we have it wouldn't take much to reach our monthly goal.

I think the donations are an amazing idea...where would we all be without this site? I think everybody should donate!!

It's awesome to see the progress bar so near the goal! It hasn't been that high in quite a while. I just donated for the first time... I haven't been able to before. Considering how many regular users there are, if everyone could chip in a few dollars whenever they are able, it would be easy to cover the expenses and take the burden off of David.

Thanks for explaining. The way I see it, I spend a decent amount a month on therapy and she helps, but I think PTO might help more, if PTO could no longer continue to run, id have to give my therapist more money, LOL! So donating to PTO ends up balencing out for me.

Wow, look at it now! If just 20 more users could afford to donate $2, this month's goal would be met! That would be awesome; I'm sure all these server problems have added extra expenses.

I want to personally say thank you to all of our members and staff that contributed to and helped us to exceed our May 2011 goal. It hasn't happened in a very long time and I am so appreciative of all who were able to help keep our community up and running. Let's hope June is just as good. Thanks everyone!

!! It is definitely cheaper and more helpful than therapy for me. I would also think that the costs of running the site have been a little more than usual with trying to fix the server problems. So, I really hope we can reach the goal this month

I just made a donation and it pushed Prison Talk above its goal! I feel proud to be a part of it! This site has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life.

We surpassed our goal for June because PTO members are so amazing! I want to thank everyone for helping us to keep providing the best information and support for those with incarcerated loved ones to be found anywhere on the Internet. Let's see what we can do in July!!! Thanks everyone, you make a HUGE difference!
