Default Protective Custody ?

I got into a lot of trouble when I was hanging out with a group of friends a few years ago, hurt a lot of people, done a lot of things I Shouldn't have. I'm 19 years old at the moment, I've been told I'll most likely end up at MRRC then Silverwater Gaol.

I'm wondering if I should go to Protective Custody because I know that most of the other Gangs/group members who I've fought with are inside MRRC and Silverwater(About the same age as me).

I'm pretty confused if whether I should go into general population or just get myself in PC, I don't want to end up fighting for things that happened years ago but if I have to then I will.

I just need some suggestions, I'm looking at 1 - 3 years sentence, I've done my pre-sentence report last week and got about 1 month before I get sentenced.

Hope you guys can help me, thanks.

Hey!

Not sure if this helps you but my guy has "gang affiliation" too. All it means for him is that he can't be in the same jail as they are. Which is working to his advantage at present.

Good luck

Hi There,

Must be a very difficult, nervous time for you!

I agree with Bellie. I would let them know who you know or ask not to go to Silverwater. Protective custody is usually associated with 'dogs/informers' or 'paedophiles' and can leave you vulnerable - not to mention your restricted movements, lock ins, etc...

Have you seen this video at all?

It is interesting viewing... may help you decide.

Good luck deciding and for your sake I hope your sentence length isn't too long.

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice???

I'm currently trying to negotiate my sentence downgraded with the department of prosecutions. I am looking at about 4-5 years. I've got the best QC barristers representing me throughout my trial and they have asked me to consider providing info or testifying against other ppl involved in the case and provide all the information I know, in return, I will potentially have my sentance reduced to 6months-1year? There is such a big difference between 1 year and 5 years behind bars so I'm completely lost as to what to do about this as I am no dog? I will only have the option to go down this road once and if I pass it up, i'll have to live with the sentence I'm given?

My barristers say that I'll be put in protective custody and won't be in mainstream. I guess I'm still worried that I'll most likely be in the same prison as the other ppl?

Is protective custody actually protected and is it still possible for these ppl to get to me if we're in the same jail? What is the main difference between the mainstream and protective sections?

These people aren't friends but are involved in gangs, which makes it hard to make the decision? Ruin my life and career for 5 years or run the risk and get out in 6-12 months and get my life back together?

Really need some advice on protective custody in QLD and what it's like compared to mainstream?? There will be a time very soon that I'll need to make the decision?

Thanks

my man is in protection.. i can tell you that people in protection are there for many different reasons and people in main stream dont seem to understand that .. regardless of why you are in protection you will be seen as a kiddie fiddler ... protection is in most instances safer to be i than mainstream and where my man is agcc he has a pretty calm unit and there is basically no fighting or trouble like there is in mainstream. alot of people in protection are first timers or on watch for suicide or something like that. if protection is what it takes to keep you safe it is well worth it . i believe they have a similar schedule to mainstream . my man is let out at 730am and lockdown at 5pm every day. mainstream can not get into protection so you will not come to harm from any one that you are trying to avoid. once you have been classafied as needing protection you will not be able to serve time in mainstream from what i have been told.
its serious business so you need to do what ever you can to make sure you are safe and can get on with your life and put things behind you . i wish you the best of luck with you case and any time you have to serve
