Question about my dad's parole

My dad is currently in prison now, and he is serving his 5th year out of 12. I was wondering how parole worked because he tells me there is a possibility of him getting out once he served half of his time, which will be next year. Does anyone now if there is anything I could do to help this procress? I turn 21 next year and my only birthday wish is for him to be out! Please let me know if you know any information on parole!
