Default New bill passed regarding school?

I'm not sure where to look to try to verify this....
A friend of mine sent me a letter and he asked me to check into something for him. I'm going to share what he said:

Because of recent legislation the criteria to take school is as follow; you have to be within 5 years of projected release date. You have to be 90 days infraction free at the start of the course. You can only take one continuing educations & one certificate class. You will not recieve diplomas in classes such as carpentry, welding, brick mason or electrical wiring anymore. That means you can't get an AWS certification for welding.

This is what he was told and I don't know where to go to look to try to verify if this is true or if the facility is just blowing hot air. Has anyone heard anything like this?

Having the same problem here. Ex-husband got transferred so he could go to school, now he's being told "nope, no way" "You've got too much time left" He's asked whose policy is this, DOC or Mt. View? No answer. He is frustrated, I am frustrated, can't get answers anywhere. Why the heck would they transfer him if they knew he couldn't go to school? That's the whole reason he requested a transfer to begin with, it's on his paperwork as such!

I believe this was all a result of the state budget problems. The NC Community College System provides the bulk of the training in the correctional facilities and they have had to reduce staffing and programming. One of the casualties was in the area of prison education. With limited dollars they have to restrict the education and training to those who are closer to release.

Mountain View is the worst. My husband is there. They run that prison like it is it's own country and the Superintendent is President, Judge and jury.

Default Mountain View not the only one

I am at my wits end dealing with Southern Correctional in Troy, NC. I hope that the prison officials do read this and see that Lamar Blalock the unit manager is running this dictatorship and getting away with it. He has his favorites and when they get charged, with stealing, smoking, disboeying an order, amazingly their charges are dropped and their custody status does not change, but he has made the comment he can do what he wants to the white guys because they can not scream descrimination. Now how is this fair? If you are white, you are locked up in segragation, punished to the full extent and if you are his "buddy" charges are dismissed and you lose none of your priveleges. Tha chain of command has been written all the way up to Beverly Perdue, yet this dictatorship is still going on. All inmates should be created equally and punished equally if they get a write up for going against the rules, but you should not take a person's leve without telling them. This is against the prison policy or so I was told my the lady over the case managers. I am just confused on the double standards and favortism being shown there....and just can't figure out...how do you become one of Lamar Blalock's "buddies". There has to more there that is being covered up. Lamar Blalock himself has lied to my family on numerous occassions. But like my mother always taught me, if you tell a lie you have to tell another to cover the first one up. His position is built on lies and he has even mentioned when inmates take their hearing to the DHO, he states that he has known her for 15 years and she will do exactly as she says. And that was proven correct by my family member....she did exactly as Lamar Blalock instructed. So why bother, this prison might as well be back in the western days where they just hang people without a trial. I am extremely frustated and will be on the phone again with Raleigh tomorrow. I am in fear of retaliation of my loved one, but at this point...what more can Lamar Blalock do to him?
