Question When can new TDC inmates have visits?

I'm hearing lots of different stories. I've heard 30 days, 60 days, 90 days. My husband signed for 25 years, non-agg, and left the county this morning heading to a TDC intake unit.
Does he have to wait 30 days for a visit, period? Or is it 30 days before he can have a CONTACT visit?
Someone else told me he can have regular visits right away, but 30 days before contact.
I've read the orientation handbook, both the families' and the offender's, and nothing specifies. I would assume its different in many situations..anyone familiar?

Well, I just found out he's heading to the Holliday unit in Huntsville for processing. The VERY rude lady on the phone said he can't have visits AT ALL for at least 30 days until he is completely processed. So frustrated!

Well, at least she gave you the correct information. Minimum time before any visit is 30 days but not until they have cleared intake, been classified and moved to general population. Their visitation list must also have been approved and successfully entered into the computer. As it happens, you'll probably end up waiting most if not all of that first 30 days for him to be processed in. Once he can have visits they will begin as regular through-the-glass visits and then you can begin having contact visits after 60 days. He will almost certainly start out classified as G2 (custody level) which means he can have three contact visits every calander month with any remaining visits for that month regular through-the-glass visits.

The wait is 30-60 days...my hubby has been at Garza West for 37 days and still not done with intake. They can't have contact visits until 90 days (this is what I was told???)

For TDC ID inmates the wait used to be 90 days but it is has been changed to 60. Check out page 21 of 29 in the updated visitation rules at the link below.
