I'll be on the phone with Legal Aid this morning trying to get this crap underway!!! On top of that he has 4 kids (not my own) Its rare that they do visit but they have. At the end of the day I am his sole support and yet I am unable to help him. Ill have to send a money order in. I have no choice. Ill let u know it all goes i guess.

My husband ended up being sent to Junee and I lived in Brisbane. Every second weekend I would fly to Canberra, hire a car, drive 200+ kms to see him for perhaps 90 mins. Stay overnight and hopefully see him the following day then do the whole thing in reverse. They don't give a shit how hard it is for you. When he was in Cessnock I used to fly to Sydney and drive up and stay over and see him briefly for a couple of hours with any luck on 2 days. Long Bay and John Maroney were easy after that - I could fly down in the morning and be back by the afternoon. I racked up so many Frequent Flyer points but basically most of my disposable income went on travel for 18 months. I can't stand getting on a plane now. Thank god he's now home! So yes, I feel for you but don't hold out much hope for you to get him moved back. My husband had a 90 year old mother living in Sydney who used to trek out to see him at Long Bay every 2nd week and we tried to get him left there rather than sent to Junee so she could continue to see him but that was no go so good luck.

:| The system is so blind to the fact that it is dealing with real people, who have real families. People are just numbers to be moved around between the columns on a spreadsheet. You can only try for a review of the transfer. I wish you both the best of luck.

In some ways I can't help but wonder if what it needs is an advocate for prisoners, and most importantly, for their families. There are many victims' rights advocates (as there should be), but there are also the innocent victims - the families and loved ones of those who are in prison. What's needed is a sympathetic journalist... if such a thing exists... to take an interest, to get things into the spotlight.

Take care,
Dave/MIO

The crime was committed in NSW so that was where he served his time. We could have applied for him to be moved to Qld but then he would have lost his court given parole date. He only was required to serve 18 months of a total of 45 month sentence because the magistrate gave him a set release date. Had he been moved to Qld he would have had to serve at least 60% and perhaps more of his sentence as they don't transfer release dates (for some inexplicable reason). Court based release dates are like gold because you don't have to go to a parole board.
