Anyone else's kitty use them as a climbing post?

I adopted Cheeto (yes, he's orange!) in June this year to have someone at home with me. He's a shelter kitten that some college students were fostering. I went to the shelter one night and they had him and his sister left from their litter. I picked his sister up, but she squirmed all over the place so I put her down. They handed Cheeto to me and he immediately curled up on my shoulder and fell asleep. Obviously, he was going home with me that night.

Cheeto is now 5 months old and incredibly adorable. He is a thief (steals contact lens cases), he loves to be in water (takes showers with me to where his fur is totally matted to his body) and he uses me as his climbing post. So picture it....I'm standing in the bathroom getting ready for work and all of a sudden I feel piercing pain in my leg region. It keeps moving upward until it finally stops and I have an orange rat meowing at me. It never fails, whether we are in the kitchen, bathroom or any other room, the cat climbs up my leg instead of finding another way up.

Of course, the pain and puncture wounds I have suffered are all erased from memory when I see him sprinting from the kitchen after he's finished his dinner to jump in my chair nosing me to say "hello." I love that cat so much....he has no idea how much he means to me.

have you tried using water? a water pistol or a plant sprayer set on stream, or if you're near the sink, drop some water on him.

if the dude loves water too much to care, teach him NO - tone of voice & a tap on the nose carry the message. my cats all understand this word, though sometimes they seem to "forget" what it means. they also understand DOWN.

My cat (Ollie) is like that. You can't walk up the hallway without being clawed. My cat runs and jumps at you ha.

My cat would like all of your mad climbing cats to now that if he ever meets them, he will not appreciate anything grabbing at his human's legs. If you could pass that on he would be very grateful, thankyou.

He is a TOTAL nutball!! The goober tries to lay in the sink when the water is running and rolls around. He is hilarious. Tonight I was eating some leftover macaroni & cheese and pinto beans and he ate some of both of them. He also loves coconut popsicles and would down an entire one by himself if I let him (which I don't!)

No, that's not him in my avatar. My current avatar is a picture from icanhascheezburger.com If you could see the writing it says, "They told me to post my complaints. It's not working." I'm going to change it though to a picture of Cheeto I got the other day. He was laying on his window perch (that I got from Target on the clearance rack for $5!) and saw me walking up to the front door. He, still laying there, reached his paw out and I snapped the picture just as he had his paw extended fully. So cute.
