Exclamation Release Process for a Lifer??

Once a lifer has been found suitable and waited the whole 150 days, and is due to be released, is he allowed to get picked up at the prison, like any other inmate when released?? or does his parole officer have to come pick him up, and take him to the county where he is being paroled to (because he's a lifer)??

I've known a few lifers to go home recently, and all were picked up by their parole officer, and then their family could pick them up from the parole office. Not quite the fantasy we have of picking up our lifers, but so worth it to have them home, obviously!

really?? wow!! the thing is, my lifer is about 500+ miles away from the county that he's being paroled to. DOes that matter?? Do the parole officers really pick them up, and drive them ALLLLL that way???? lol! I'm not mad at it, cause that saves me a trip and some gas money, lol!, but damn, no wonder the state is in a budget crisis.

We are only required to pick up a parolee if he paroles from the SHU or is deemed mentally unstable. Otherwise, we just require the parolee to report to the parole office between 24-72 hours from release.

My husband, was a lifer, and has been home almost a year. I was able to pick him up. I was initially told that I couldn't pick him up, then his parole officer called me and told me I could. I would make sure before going to get him.

Then it's really just at the discretion of the parole officer. Just recently 2 lifers that I know of were released and were picked up by their parole officers, but were being paroled to the same county, or county directly next to where the prison was. So I guess I wont know for sure until that day comes... uggghhhh I hate the waiting game! lol! I'm just going to plan on picking him up (have extra money on hand for gas, etc) and if it doesnt happen that way, I'll still be okay.
