Default New to This/Need Answers about JPay, Mail, etc.

Ok....This is my first post on here.. Hopefully I can get some answers or at least some understanding...

I have a really good friend thats at DRDC & has been for a couple months. Now the misunderstandings begin... I've written to him twice while he's been there & evedently he's not getting my mail.. Anyone know why?? I've sent it to the P.O. Box # they told me to.. I put his DOC # on it with his name....

Does anyone know if I can call HIM?? How does Jpay work?? I went to the Jpay site, typed in his name... his name popped up with a green check next to it.. then it just asked for email info... doesn't say whose info they want...

His 1st parole hearing is on Nov. 1st... Is it true that people usually dont get paroled on their 1st hearing??

He says he want to move to WA state, where I am, if he can get his parole transferred... Is that something that he can do?? What would he need to do before that?? Oh, just for the record, I hope he can move up here.

Umm.... I think thats it for now... Thanks

When I send mail I put it like this:

Name of the prison
First & last name Inamte #
Po Box
City,State, Zip

I am not sure how jpay works, I am sure someone can answer that for you though.

Go into the forums section of this website, and look for washington state prisons. If you post the same question there, they will help you out. Plus, you can talk to others who have loved ones in the same faclities, and ask any other questions you have. Good luck!

Thanks Princess... They told me to put his name & DOC# 1st, then prison name Then P.O. Box#... & online I've seen it as both P.O. Box # AND Street addrees of the prison...

I did however get a letter from him on Monday, the 31st.. He said he got my letter from Oct. 5th! Does it always take this long for inmates to get thier mail?

Just copy the address on his envelopes he sends you, that's what I do. And sometimes I hear it depends how fast the mail room process it all or whatever. It takes my mail 3 days at least just to get to where my husband is. When he was in the same state he'd get it max 2 days later depending what time I mailed it to him.

Well... the problem is, is that he's not in Washington, I am... He's in Colorado. He wants to move here from there.

It's called an interstate compact. Just google those words and it'll take you to ICAOS, then just look up Washington state. You can call them and find out what to do. If you marry him, he may be able to move based on family being in Washington, every state is different.

On Jpay when you go to email....put in his name as you said you did. You'll see his name with a green check mark. That means he's in the system. That's good. So then all you do is type your email and hit send. Make sure you have stamps. ,43 for one and I think 4.30 for 10 (you can double check that --theres also a 20 option) I'm assuming you already set your jpay account up? If not, do that first and foremost. Only takes a minute or two. The email usually takes about 24 hrs to get to him. It says give it 48 hrs on the site. Not sure if he has the option of emailing you back at his facility or if he has to snail mail it. My guy can email me back which is nice So.....
1. Sign up on JPay
2. Purchase some stamps
3. Email to your hearts content

Hope this helps

Go to the Colorado forum on prisontalk. They have a wealth of info and some very helpful people on there that are familiar with the Colorado prison system. You can also look on the Co Dept of Corrections web site, just google CDOC, it will give you parole hearing date each year and the mandatory release date and the facility he is in. There is a time frame for applying for interstate compact. He will need to let his counselor know immediately if he wants to apply for interstate compact. He can then establish whether he meets the criteria or not. I know he will have to have an approved sponsor here (place to live) and a job already lined up for him is extremely helpful in getting him here. Colorado has to be the one that initiates the application i.e. everything has to go through his counselor, then Washington DOC has a time frame in which they can either accept or refuse his transfer. Also it is much much better to get paroled directly to WA if possible. Once he is paroled to Colorado it is very difficult to get interstate compact. Colorado PO officers like to keep them there.
