Default Where am I going?

I am about to be sentenced to between 3-6 months in state prison (NJ) I was wondering, how does the judge determine which prison to send me to? I am going for a violation of probation for possession of controlled dangerous substance (CDS) i had several dirty urines before she actually violated me.

are there such things as farms/camps as part of the prison where it isn't so much like a prison. and you have an opportunity to get a "job" at the facility and work as opposed to sitting around and rotting like in county jail? anyone have experience in this type of facility and what was the experience like (I know, it's prison, not supposed to enjoy it but it was tolerable, yeah?

any feedback would be appreciated.......thanks and have a great day!!

P.S.: if you have your own T.V., when can you watch it, is there at least basic cable stations? and where do you hook it up? does it cost anything to actually have it? like a cable usage "bill" ?? I know these questions seem strange but I need help in making my decision, Jail or DC...and avoiding total boredom is gonna be a major factor. I love reading and T.V..

Most times you have no choice. You may get to choose a drug program or boot camp over a much longer time in prison but thats about it. There really are few alternative sentencing options. Since you tested dirty, I would guess that a drug program is in your future and you will be in programs and counseling all day with very little free time. You won't sit around unless you pick prison and you will be there the longest time possible. Drug programs don't have individual TV's as they are very structured days/nights.

I don't know about NJ but in Cali it takes 3-6 months just to get out of reception. I would suggest looking at the NJ site. I know the Ca site is very detailed about special packages etc. In Ca you can't get a TV until you are out of reception.

you will go to CRAF in trenton first and THEY will classify u there. i guess they base it on how far ur family is etc. i THINK u can ask for one certain prison over another.....from what i hear CRAF is pretty dismal and BOOORRRIINNNGGGG!!! a good friend of mine was just sent to mid-state in ft dix. he sat at CRAF for abt a month. but i have heard of guys being there up to 6 months waiting. ur on 23 hr lockdwn there i do know that once u get to ur assigned prison is when u can get things like tv and such....it took my man a while for his commisary to switch over. good luck

I could be wrong, but I thought I read or heard that if your sentence is 364 days or less you stay in county?

My husband was in CRAF for about a week(he got lucky) and then was sent to Jones Farm. It's a camp at CRAF. He had no say in where he was sent.

Best of luck to you!
