Default Time constraints on remand prisoners ??

I don't know if this is the is the right place but I was wondering if there are certain time constraints with regards to how long a person can be held on remmand pre- plea and pre-sentencing... It seems like my partner is waiting a very long time, I know all time on remmand should come off the sentence- is this always the case or can they lose time served?
Thank you in advance!
