Default 2012 NKSP Thread for Newbies

Does anyone go to NKSP from Long Beach Ca, I don't drive and gas money is not a problem.

1 week before getting off probation my husband was sent back to prison on a 7 yr joint suspension for violating the terms of the so called agreement. the judge has denied him his probation credits for the almost 3 yrs he has served. he tested dirty in feb and mar and they sent him back in september. 1 wk before he was to be off paper. although we feel this has been a grave injustice we are dealing with it. he will be going to firecamp in 1st week of January and i would love to see him.

They took my son from Riverside County Southwest to Kern 6 days ago. I have several questions. How long till he shows up on the inmate locator? Also, how long till he can send a visiting form? I have several arrests in the late 1970s most drug related. There is no way I can remember all the dates and charge numbers. Is there anyway to run a through record on myself so i fill out the visitors form completely? Do they turn down immediate family members visitors requests often? What is the average (I know it would just be a guess) time till an inmate is processed to his "home" prison? Can I write him before I get his cdc #? Thank you for any advice.

mine came from Riv too but RObert Presley...anyways it usually takes a week or two for them to show up in the website when they first go up. Once they are in the system and get moved it shows a little more quickly. He will be able to send you the form as soon as he can get one from someone. I am not sure about your criminal history. I would just try to write all you can possibly remember so it doesnt seem like you are hiding anything. As for processing them it can take a long time or it could be quick. They are all different. This is my hubbys 3rd time in NKSP. First time he did 7m of an 8m sentence in NKSP. Second time he was out of there in like 3 m. This time he is on month #5 and still hasnt been moved. As for CDC# try calling Delano and talk to records and see if you can get it from them

Try going to your local police department. Im sure there is some kind of backround check they can do that would show your history. Good luck

Hello - I have thought about you and your son. How long is his sentence? My son's trial is in May. I too am so worried about when Torrey gets transferred, maybe we can help each other? I have many questions,
Did his commissary money transfer to NKSP? Can he call you? How do we make contact with our boys?

I hope you will be able to visit.
Please let's stay in contact.

Marti

To get a copy of your DOJ printout, go here: http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/security.php

print the form, fill it out as directed & find your local live scan location... after you get livescanned it only takes 3-4 days to get your record in the mail.

My guy was transfered from Robert Pressley to North Kern on Dec 13th. So far his money has NOT followed him. He appeared in the locator the day he went. I have sent more money and included enough so that his restitution is paid immediately. Mail seems to be a real issue there. My guy is a daily writer and I have not received anything since 12/31 and that letter was dated 12/26. I send letters with delivery tracking so I can check when it is actually delivered to NKSP mailbox. He lets me know the date he actually receives each letter. We also number our letters so he can tell if he is missing any and so can I. Kern is horrible. Takes them 7-9 days from time of receipt to deliver..and he receives 2-3 letters at a time. He is missing several letters as am I. I too am new to all this.. but I hope this info helps you.

i heard it takes a few days until their money shows up on his account.. but mail isn't consistent in any prison it all depends on the mail room.. fortunately i haven't had mail missing & i get all my mail but as more inmates are arriving for the mainline I'm pretty sure they are trying to adjust cause it's a lot more mail & they are probably under staffed.. mail picks up and slows down.. holidays aren't of much help either

Numbering the letters is a great idea. Can he call you? Will they ever be able to call when they are in reception?

Missing my boy....

Well - that will a huge adjustment for me. My son calls 3 times a week now. I heard from another mom ( another state and prison ) that her son's commissary money transferred to reception, so they put as much as they could into that account just before he was transferred. Is this the same for NKSP? How much is normal for a commissary account? I give my son 45 dollars a month. That is just about all I can do.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, his money will transfer with him. If he owes restitution, 55% of the money you send to him will be taken to pay that back Some have said that restitution doesn't come out in reception but I am not 100% sure. I don't send my hubby money so not sure how much they need, sorry.

I am not sure but I think the canteen limit in reception is $140/month. But I am not positive. That is merely the amount my husband told me to put on his books while he is in reception for canteen. I think the amount doubles when they are mainlined. Again, I am not positive. My husband also had me put another a little more on his books as a "cushion". His letter today says he spent some of the cushion to get a pneumonia shot they had available. He did not say how much that cost. Hope this helps you.

Yeah I was wondering about the restitution and if they took it out while he's in reception. My love said he hasn't had a chance to go to the commissary yet and he'll have to request a slip to see how much he has on his books. But with how slow things r and how much they've been moving him it'll be a bit b4 he gets the slip. Now when u send them stationary .. Do u use those big orange envelopes or the bubble ones???

We handled my hubby's restitution right up front. Bubble envelopes are NOT allowed. At least that is my understanding.

Yes sadly to say restitution is taken its 55% of whatever you send.. (i.e. you send $100 he will get $45 to spend) and he gets a slip when its his week for store and hes told how much he has... Stationary can be sent in the orage ones but if they have a metal thing u have to take it off before sending it.. or it will get sent back.. and no bubble envelopes
