Those benefits include reducing the rates recidivism and crime and the cost of the incarceration. Housing a prisoner in Michigan currently costs taxpayers about $32,000 per year.

“Comprehensive rehabilitation initiatives such as those offered by Goodwill Industries and Hope Network can help remove barriers before prisoners are released, provide effective risk management resources and prepare men and women to make the transition from prison to long-term work," Peters said. "By leveraging these community services, employers can help ensure the ultimate success of their efforts.”
The Jan. 19 event will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. at Cascade Engineering, 3400 Innovation Court in Grand Rapids.
