Default How long will this guy actually serve in Minnesota?

I know someone (or of someone) who was sentenced recently (Nov) to 60 months DOC in Minnesota. I have checked his profile online and his expected release date is 10/20/2014. He's telling people that he's going to be out later this year on some "special program." Is this possible? Could he really be out in like a year on a five year sentence? I also called his case worked and he confirmed the release date. I'm trying to figure out whether someone is lying to me or whether he's actually going to do the three to five that he was sentenced to. Any help would be appreciated, especially in regards tot he specifics of the new 1/3 law.

I am not familiar with Minnesota's parole eligibility, but in KY its very possible for an inmate to serve one year on a 5 year sentence IF he makes parole. You may want to do a little research on Minnesota's laws regarding sentencing/parole. Here is the link to Minnesota Statutes, Laws, and Rules:

I have done quite a bit of research and found nothing that leads me to believe that he will get out this year. His case worker said on the phone today that his scheduled release in 10/20/2014. I'm just wondering if anyone might know what "special program" he might be in. It's entirely possible that the person who gave me the information was lying or misinformed.

I can't answer for MN. Again, in KY, any classes over 60 days results in 90 days off their total time, off the back end, not the front. The only thing I can think of is parole. Did you look for how long they have to serve before being eligible for parole? It should be in the Statutes, under Probation & Parole (that's where its at in the KRS).

If I may, what is your interest? Seems that you really don't want him out this year

The date that I provided before is when he will be eligible for parole. There is also an expiration date for him which is in May of 2016.

I guess he is going into the Challenge Incarceration Program (CIP) which, theoretically, would put him out six months after he enters the program. Know anything about the program garbersmatthew? Anyone else? You say it is easy to get kicked out?

I think you're right. This may be the guy his lady left him for and he's a little burned around the edges because of it. But the fact that he says he called his case worker to find out info is seriously creepy to me :/

Im thinking the same thing too he's researching his exs man .....
When I was in psychology class they said a break up goes through 5 emotions just like the 5 stages of grief
Denial (this isn't happening to me!) Anger (why is this happening to me?) Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...)
Depression (I don't care anymore) Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes)

Looks like a bit of denial and anger?? ....

I really hope you hit acceptance soon because looking up her mans info is not Normal...its a bit creepy like posted above ....

if he get's into the "boot camp program" he could be out in about a year as long as they follow and obey all rules of the program.
