Default My boyfriend wants to get married in Prison

He just got sentenced on Monday 5 years!

We have been together 2 and his family is pretty much like my own...anyways when he brought it up i kinda laughed because I never pictured getting married that way...but now i'm starting to think about it more...

Are there any benifits if we were to get married while he's in there for the both of us or for his time being in there??

I'm not sure how to straight up answer your question, but I can tell you the pros and cons that I came up when deciding whether or not to marry my husband in prison.

We got married on our 2 year anniversary - May 5, 2011. He got locked up November 2010 so he was in there a couple months before I decided to actually marry him.

In our situation, I was 6 months pregnant with our daughter when we got married so we have a child together. I'm not sure if you and your man have a child together.

My ultimate reason for marrying was obviously because I loved him and I realized that I don't want to be with anyone else but him for the rest of my life. There were definitely some factors that helped but overall, this was the reason I decided to marry him.

Some good factors were things like we had a child together and I wanted her to have the same last name as me no matter what but he wanted her to have his last name since it is SUPER rare for girls to be born in his family line; it reassured him that I wasn't going anywhere, I didn't want anyone else, and that I loved him as much as I said I did.

Some not so good factor were obviously that our wedding would be in a prison which is NOT what any girl dreams of or wants for themselves (I can tell you that in my opinion, it was totally worth it for me. As long as I was his wife at the end of the day, I didn't care where it was.); by marrying him, you have duel responsibility for all of his debt (fines, restitution, etc.) and visa versa.

There are other reasons for both but I am soo drained that I can't think lol. But all in all, my wedding day was the best day of my life (next to the birth of my daughter) regardless that it was in a prison. As long as you love him and you want to spend the rest of your life with him and he feels the same way about you and is also wanting to spend the rest of his life with you, I'd say do it. True love can get through anything. And personally, I feel as if we have a stronger relationship than other people that are both out in the real world and have not endured a prison relationship because with how hard it is to get through a prison relationship, if you can get through that, then I don't believe that there is anything that you CAN'T endure once he returns to us. I hope that I somewhat helped.

I have asked myself that question as well. We were supposed to be married 3 days before he went to jail. And we've talked about the first thing that we will do when he gets home is get married. But unfortunately he is going to do some time and he we've decided that as soon as he gets settled into his prison we will be married. We both know that this is what we want. We have weighed the pros and cons of doing it there and decided that its not where we get married, its just the point that we will be married. The vows and meaning behind it will still be the same. Just think about it and if u are a person that prays, pray on it and God will give you guidance.

If you can wait, I'd suggest that you just wait. My boyfriend and I both were thinking about getting married while he is in prison but we are both glad that we've totalled decided that WE ARE NOT GETTING MARRIED IN PRISON! We just didn't want to be linked to that place whatsoever! We didn't want the happiest day of our lives to be there! He got sentenced to 9 years but he only has 3 yrs to go so the wait to get married is well worth it just so that we can forget about that place forever when he's done doing his time and we don't ever have to remember of that horrible place every year on our anniversary. We'll get to have a wedding, honey moon & the way we want it to be but it comes with a cost, the cost of waiting. And that cost is well worth it! If we had a prison wedding, we'll say our vows, we'll consider ourselves lucky if we get to touch and kiss and then take a second to look at each other and then off we go our separate ways. My man said in some prisons, you two meet at the court house and he stays in handcuffs the whole time! SOOOO not worth it to me. To me 5 years is a jiffy considering my man got 9 yrs. If your man only has to serve 50 % of his time he'll be out pretty quick! Still if he has to serve 85% the wait isn't too bad.

Within 2 weeks of him hitting the yard, I had the application to wed in my hands. We argue (lovingly) about this but he wanted to make sure I wasn't going to wander (as if a piece of paper binds us), he says that's not true, he wanted to marry me when he was 8, and after 30 years, it was time (right, while he's doing time).
We did in June 2010, and I am still delighted that we did.
The benefit is personal satisfaction to both of us. It is strictly a personal choice for everyone.

Okay I agree it is definitely a personal choice, but if you dont mind my asking what is the rush? Think about it long do you really want to marry in prison and turn around leave and go home alone? Just weigh all of the factors in here, some aren't so rosy. Either way it's up to you and your man and if you guys are good with that then I say hell yeah go for it. Good luck

Want to go ahead and get married and so does he....but at the same time even if we do wait till he gets out then that means we would have to wait even longer to purchase nd have the wedding we always wanted but his parents we like if we go ahead and get married whilehe is in there.... by the time he gets out they will furnish the whole wedding exactly how we want it.....basically like we have to prove that we are really serious I want to marry him so bad I don't wanna wait or go another day with out carrying his last name and we been together since we were kids

hello....i asked my husband to marry me while in prison. i thought he would die. we were engaged to be married before he went to jail and i decided i wanted it to be the one thing through all of this that they could not control. with that said, we were married May 27th, 2012. we applied in August 2011, it almost 8 months to get approved. it was really tough before but now its really worse. walking out the door and coming home, leaving him there was awful....i miss him more now than ever. if you decide to go through with it, let me know, i can give you some pointers. find someone now that's a notary, without one they use one from a list they have available and its about 200.00. make a decision based off what you really want, i had to promise (Mark) my man that i would do another wedding when he gets home. i love that man!

My boyf says its up to me. He says he wants to marry me and would do it in prison to show that he's serious. He wants me to have his name and build our family and will do whatever he has to to prove that.

Simply put...ITS A PERSONAL CHOICE & TO EACH THEIR OWN...the VOWS of marriage is actually THE POINT...so if you understand THAT, it DOESNT matter WHERE you take them.

I definitely agree with Tela. Did I ever think years ago that is where or how my marriage would take place? No, not at all. But it was ours and it meant more to us to be married than anything else and I can honrstlt say, it was the
most intimate, loving and best moments of my life because it was ours.
