Talking Additional Good Time for Inmates

Senate Bill 342, same as House Bill 4123, has been passed by the Senate and now awaits House approval. This bill will give 90 days of good time for each vocational training certification, GED or high school diploma, and 6 months or longer drug or rehab programs completed. This would add 180 days of good time for my hubby if it passes!

UPDATE:

The House ammended this part of the bill and excluded the rehabilitation programs as eligible for added good time. There is also a section of this bill in regards to mandatory supervision. Instead of allowing inmates to discharge their sentences, there would be a 6 month early release from minimum discharge date that would place the inmate on mandatory community supervision for the last 6 months of their sentence. Another interesting proposition in regards to good time, if I understand it correctly, is that if the bill passes then all current inmates will regain any good time lost.

Default Update

The bill didn't pass. It's no wonder there is such an issue of overcrowding in the jails and prisons. There is little or no help for so many people who need it. I guess there is nothing wrong with locking up the mentally ill and addicts to keep them away from "polite society" as long as they can keep the door revolving for them. We'll just keep locking them up and letting them out to lock them up again.
