Default Intro - Son in Las Cruces

Hello everyone - I have a son in Las Cruces, NM on felony assault and drug charges. Prescription drug addiction lead to heroin addiction which eventually led him to criminal activity to support his habit. He was at MDC in Albuquerque for a year, then to Los Lunas, then on to Las Cruces. His time for release is quickly approaching and I am becoming more anxious and nervous about what he will face once he's out. He will have 5 years probation and at least 6 months supervised parole. I know that whatever happens once he's out is totally up to him, but would like some suggestions on how to support and encourage him.

My hunny gets out next year after 12 years in,He recently got to leave the facility for something and he became extremely nervous..he said it was good for him because it helped him better understand truly how much the world had changed...he said even just the few hours was like a huge eye opener...he admitted he didn't expect to have such anxiety over something as simple as new vehicles, the noises, even smells..etc..he said I now know it will ALL,every detail will be a factor in my adjusting, along with all the guidelines of who he associates with, employment and housing...I, personally actually plan on attending counseling before his release so that I can properly deal with my own emotions and mentally prepare myself..so that I have the tools on board to handle BOTH of us..we will be attending counseling together, we pretty much feel that without that extra guidance we'd be lost pups!

As far as support- PATIENCE & LOVE, As a man his pride is already hurting..(I am still dealing with this).. we see it as just being our natural loving selves, they see it as their woman/mom doing for them when it should be the other way around... Encourage anything that is positive for him... Have you asked him what his fears are? Is he aware of them himself? Does he want to stay clean or is he telling his family that because they want for him? I know this may seem harsh, but that is the reality of the situation his success will first depend on how truthful he is being with himself...and then everyone else. GOOD LUCK HUN!!!!((hugs))
