Default "Hard Time" profiles CRC in one hour show

The National Geographic Channel has produced a one hour documentary on CRC: "Against The Wall."

For those who get this channel, try to catch this episode - it shows every aspect of CRC, the inside of the facility, what inmates have to go through and endure upon their arrival, their cells, the overall look and behavior of their fellow inmates... and the choices they can make to either use their time in the system productively... or to succumb to a permanent life of crime.

http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/n...wo-2-dvd-r-set --- for those who cannot access the channel, they do have the episode on this DVD set. Once again, the specific name of the episode is, "Against The Wall."

This won't give you much peace of mind... except in actually being able to see what your loved one cannot describe to you in a letter or on the phone.

Loved ones and hope and communication are the things that help, I believe... Too many are abandoned once there, and I think they just stop caring. They say prisons are about punishment and repair, but I have yet to see any real repair OR care from the system. After all, it's their bread and butter. If people don't commit crimes or reoffend, they are out of a job.

And with that, just know that there will be an increase in innocent people going to prison, with these 'financial deals' that are being cut for money to come into prisons if they keep a high occupancy rate. Scary stuff!

I know that I have learned way too much on the trip, and I can't wait until we can walk away.

THe thing is... Does anyone ever 'really' walk away? Especially now, when filled prisons means big bucks to a lot of entities, both on the outside and the inside.

It's America's best kept secret. It's the 21st Century mafia of corruption.

Cops on the take...

Coearsed false confessions with zero documentation in the interrogation rooms (no recordings - no video - just 'it's our word against yours' notes which are turned into discovery for the purpose of conviction) to validate violation of Miranda rights...

Counties without public defender offices exploiting arrested individuals of their rights...

Prosecutors fighting against the introduction of any evidence that can clear an innocent person or mitigate sentence...

Corporations sticking it to families for phone calls for technology that was long ago paid for...

Mark-ups on stamps, envelopes, substandard commissary food AND clothing and supplies...

And once a loved one has paid their debt to society, they are demeaned further by where they can live, where they can work - and given no real training or opportunity while serving time to garner a REAL trade that will sustain them in making a living.

Yes, loved ones may get released... But thanks to society and the way the system works (or doesn't work), this is NEVER OVER.

I can totally agree with that - I would just prefer that they don't have to deal with a lifetime of crap, because the system and society won't make it easy. Everyone needs to remember - this is a big money making business for states... and not the hardship they want the public to believe it is... but as long as the media is controlled and continues to put out the negative perception that those in prison are all very bad people and should never be allowed into society again, parole officers and others will find ways to trip people up and get them back into jail. For instance, let's look at child support - it's very difficult to find work now, so those who can't get work can't pay child support, so they are jailed, which prevents them from seeking the work so that they CAN pay child support. Last week, 86 people were back in the Licking County Jail for small things, which included nonpayment of child support. This is INSANE! To all of us, anyway - but to 'them' - well, it's money and job security. It is not in their interest to successfully rehabilitate anyone. The public needs to be educated.

I watched it and OMG.....I just wanted to hug that inmate Hayes and take him home. He looked so petrified and when he first walked into his cell and the tears came...oh man.

Any thing to keep the prisons full!! Ohio is petty always has been always will unless some serious changes occur. My man will always be looked at like a criminal all his prison tats n ones on his face. Tear drop n all for his gpa btw no he didnt kill anyone hes had it for years i seriously thought about buying the kat von d tattoo cover up make up n using it on him to see how ppl see him in different places bc we go to walmart n people stare like crazy. Hes also a tattoo artist but his facial tat i think makes people think hes going to steal stuff. He did that to himself tho but on to ur child support comment it makes no sense hey dude wont pay support so lets throw him in jail. Maybe he can learn to get a job in jail lol blah what a joke. Why not make them do community service at least then they Will be free n wanna spend their time on a real job getting real money n the trashy places around ohio could get cleaned up n if they didnt comply 3 strikes ur out. Or help them find a job its hard enough for a person with a degree n a clean record to get a job! N without people in trouble they would be out a job maybe thats why they keep the jails n prisons full so they can get a pay check n not care about anyone but themselves!!!

I just watched the episodes on youtube.com that covered Lucasville, Ross and CRC. I think it was easier not knowing because now I am upset with seeing what he has to look at everyday and deal with... :-( He told me he wished I hadn't watched it because he knows how sensitive I am.

I watched that too. It was one of the stupidest things I did during all this. If anyone's reading this, don't watch it; it's not worth it.

I hope he can get the tats taken off or hidden. I think a lot of people see them and translate that into someone who has pride in their time served and that criminogenic thinking style isn't admired.

It all starts with your elected law makers, plus attorney generals, whom have victim rights lobbyist. Prisoners need lobbyist too to advocate at the statehouse on a yearly basis, but we don't so all these sanctions pass without a problem. Even laws retroactively which courts have ruled they can't do over and over.

Then lawmakers pass a sanction or law, then 5 years later another lawmaker will introduce a bill to make it more harsher with time and fine as well. I see a lot of lawmakers jump and introduce these after something in the media that someone did which was a huge crime, but in actuallity happens all the time across the U.S..

This is why you study the media, legislators, legislation, and the court system regarding laws being challenged. I wish i had more time but don't, always super busy

You are absolutely correct, Scoop! Some of the worst laws are based on 'media buzz' and the public's outrage over a current event. That means a sure fire election (or re-election!) if you say you're 'comin' down hard on crime and criminals.'.

But the public at large is so incredibly stupid and doesn't realize that they are simply being played for political gain. The Adam Walsh law is one of the most poorly crafted laws ever to be enacted - and it is ruining more lives than actually being a law of true benefit. The terms are so broad and vague that men AND women who do literally nothing but look the wrong way in someone's direction... that if that other person thinks they are being leered at and make a complaint, the person is charged and convicted of a sex crime. Because Ohio is a homophobic, prejudicial, judgmental state as it is (truly... I have traveled the nation and the world for business and you will find no other place with such internal corrupt practices...), the state simply conducts itself in a manner totally foreign to the conduct in other states.

As for these episodes - yes, they are horrific, but I believe that EVERYONE should watch them. Yes... get upset, but more importantly, get MAD - then get VOCAL! Share these videos with anyone and everyone you know. Post them on your Facebook pages. Tweet them. Share them on other web sites which are actively fighting for reform and for the freedom of those who are wrongfully convicted. Email them to your congressman/woman in your district.

Ignoring this problem is not going to make it go away, nor is it going to help your loved one. This is a FIGHT and it's not an easy one - the choice to me seems to be an easy one. My loved one deserves nothing less from me. I personally will NEVER stop fighting for reform and I will expose these dirty little secrets at every given opportunity. I will not rest until change occurs and those dirty people working in the system are publicly exposed and fired.
