Default Intro--MrBw from Maryland

I was just sentenced to 18 months in federal court and the judge recommended the Cumberland camp facility. I have been reading up on a lot of material and I am seeing a bunch of cases where there is over crowding or something and they are ending up placing non violent minimum security guys in medium security facilities because of over crowding. I started to look into some prison consulting groups but the first one i talked to seemed like a scam from the start of the conversation i had with him. Are there things that a consultant like that could do for me that i could not do on my own? I know there is a lot of information on this site but I'm struggling to sort it all out. Id really appreciate any help anyone could give me, as far as what to expect and of course keeping me in a safer camp and if i should request a different place or not. I really appreciate this site it's a great place for someone about to do some time and of course for the loved ones of those people.

Hello MrBW, welcome to PTO, and hello from New Zealand
Sorry as Im from New Zealand, Im really not able to give you any information about what you are in for, or how you can go about things.
I do how ever have a PenPal who is in prison in the USA, and he says that most of the prisons in the states are over crowded. I have been writing to him since July last year, and hes been moved to 3 prisons already, due to over crowding. So Im guessing you may very well be correct about the over crowding there too. Sorry to say
I do hope someone is able to give you more information, and Im really sorry that you will be going away. Do you know when you go in?

I wouldnt say 18 months is a short time... But then again, I wouldnt say 1 day was a short time lol... Id say no time is a nice and short sentence hehe.

You are right right though, 18 months is a very short sentence compeered to what a lot of the partners / friends/ family members in here have.
My PenPal gets out next year. Hes been in for hmmmm. 8 years now. Gunna be a real shock to him when he gets out. The world has changed a lot over the past 8 years. He wants to come stay with me lol.. If only it was that easy hehe. Im in a whole different country haha. Otherwise I would have no problem with it what so ever.
June the 4th, at lest you still have a bit of time before you go in, enough time to sort yourself out, know all you need to know before you go in. Have you been in before? or is this your first? I guess if it wasnt your first you would know about the crowding wouldnt you. So bit of a dumb question on my behalf lol.. But never know hehe.
Either way, I wish you the best of luck, have a look around the forum, there is a forum for people about to go in. Let me see if I can find it for you. ok here we go I found it. Headed to Prison you should be able to find out your info in there. lets see what else I can find for you. MARYLAND you should find something in there too. Or post your questions in there, someone is sure to be able to help.

what are head counts like do they really wake everyone up every hour on the hour all night long? if so how does anyone get any rest?

does anyone know about getting furloughs?and what that's all about? and how do i go about getting released to a half way house and or home detention which of course would be best. I just want this all to be done asap so i can come home and move on with what otherwise is a fantastic life.

does anyone know when i should find out for sure what prison I'm going to be sentenced too? and if a request for a different prison might end me up some where i really don't want to be? I know it sounds crazy but i kind of thought it would be easier to do my time some where warm. I guess it wouldn't be right next to my family but coming from a place where we have cold seasons I thought it might be kind of a nice break. My family and gf could still visit and all but i guess just not every weekend. I just don't know how i'd feel about getting visits all the time it scares me a little that it would realyl bother me seeing my family and gf all the time making me miss them even more. I just don't know how to go about this all to be honest and it's really scary. I have about 2 months till I'm supposed to turn myself in, and I just can't seem to shake the thought of going away.

I do know that they have count a few times a day. I dont think that they wake you up during the night tho, unless there is a problem or something. My husband said they search his things a lot. He is actually at the camp. He did mention that furloughs are pretty much out of the quesition there, but hopefully things change.

I believe that the halfway house option is based on where you live and home detention is a case by case situation. You cant do more than 6 months in a halfway house (unless you get some type of special consideration.) Let me know if you have any more questions, I'll try to ask my husband.
