Default "Bout that life" Anyone use "prison terms" when talking with your LO?

Haha, ever see the last season of bad girls club on oxygen? Theres this one girl who always said "I'm bout that life" lol! Anyways, so I was thinking....I've thought about how I nvr pictured myself in this situation as all of us surely have. But I also think how much I've learned.....in the aspect of how I've enhanced my knowledge about the unknown...about how 3 yrs ago I would nvr imagined I would know so much about the prison life! How "I'm bout that life" now!

Its become 2nd nature to go thru "shake downs" to c my bf......its become 2nd nature to say "shake down" period!

I'm not saying I'm proud (fyi) im just saying,I guess, hmmmm, nvr woulda thought!

Anyone else feel this is now 2nd nature? Anyone use "prison terms" when talking with ur loved one and don't think twice? Just curious!

I sometimes slip up. Like I was talking to my dad about the phone and said I didn't put money on the phone - he asked u have a pre paid phone now? My mom asked how he buys stuff and I said if he has money on his books then he goes to the store......totally lost her!

Not intentional of course but funny when I catch myself.

yes, I'm totally with you on this one, I find myself using some of the "prison slang" every once in a while when I'm talking to husand. Never would have thought we would be in this situation and I would be so well versed on the prison system - crazy!

This thread made me laugh out loud, remembering a story about my husband's mother calling and yelling at the warden. She was 65 years old and had a high pitched, nasal voice, with a deep Kentucky accent...if you are familiar with Kentucky you know the way these very religious mountain women speak. It's very sweet yet pure hillbilly He was supposed to have gotten out of the hole and transferred, but continued to sit there with no explanation. The warden tried to speak to her in such proper terms she got mad and frustrated and hollered "Are you gonna tell me whether he's gonna ride out or not??" He paused a second and asked her how she knew what that meant and she got even madder yelling "MY SON HAS BEEN IN PRISON FOR 17 YEARS! WHAT DO YOU THINK, THAT I'M SOME KIND OF NINNY??" Oh how I loved me some Bertha Belle!!!

I have definitely said some of the prison slang & just general slang he had when he was home.
He says "dat part" after a lot of stuff I say. I really dunno how to explain what it means.. basically it's like agreeing with what the other person is sayin.
Now I say it all the time.

lol...repeating the words or phrases of the life is one thing, but saying them like you know the meaning/understand that life is a whole other thing. sometimes we do use them. btw i'm a former bad girl so i know the "life".lol... one thing i feel the need to say on belalf of women like me.. ladies that are mbi/mwi think feel the men who lived a life of crime, drug abuse etc., can and have changed. however i have noticed that there's a reluctance some times even outright denial that women in the life can change and turn their lives around and be a woman that any man whether they be free world/never in prison or an inmate would be proud to have as their wife/girl friend. i don't understand why though. i only know MY man says he's proud of me and has longed for a woman that can really understand him and what he's been through. so this is a little off topic but i want to make other women aware of the fact that us bad girls can and do change our lives for the better also

I think I love Bertha Belle too...SO funny

I'm pretty sure I've become fluent in "prison speak" so to say....so much so that I have to really watch it with people who have NO clue what I'm talking about.

I was having a conversation with a friend at the gym the other night and said something about putting money on his books for commissary and got a weird look. Another time a different person said the same thing to ME and I was like what...? who do you know in prison? This was all foreign stuff to me before. A word my man uses sometimes is "truck"...like "Oh I guess I trucked on that" I actually hate hearing him use prison slang, but it is what it is...

I try to avoid some stuff..but I think some things I just say out of habit of hearing him say it.. I never thought prison would become 2nd nature in my life that's for sure..but I am sure none of us ever thought it would..

I am probably going to start watching what I say now just to see if I do haha.

We were having people from our health and safety committee coming around the office a couple months ago to make sure we are maintaining "safe working conditions" (no cords, tripping hazards etc) - One of my colleagues came to my office to remind me the morning they were coming and I said without even thinking "oh shit, I forgot about the shakedown" - She thought it was hilarious.

Thankfully she didn't think it was anything more than me being funny

My bf tries not to use too much of the prison slang when talking to me, but then I will say a few things in the slang to him (mostly thanks to PTO), and he will just laugh and say that it's pretty sad how I know what that stuff means!
But yes, I never thought I would EVER be in this 'life', and when this bid is over, I hope to NEVER be in this 'life' ever again!!
Great thread! LOL!

I hate the prison slang too, and I try not to use it, but every once in awhile it pops out when I'm trying to explain something to someone else.(I mean every once in a long ass while.)

I refer to envelops as lops.

In an argument with a woman i once told her to "go press your bunk". When i get heated all kinds of odd thing's fly out of my mouth, she probably thought i was an idiot.

A few years ago or so i went to walmart to pay my cell phone bill, first bill of my own so i was so clueless, i asked the woman if getting a money order sent out was anything like using jpay. She looked at me very confused.

So i guess, yeah kind of like a second language from hearing and talking about it for so many years.

Hmmmm,well if I'm understanding u......

Me n my man we on a downward spiral together b4 he caught his case. We split and went different ways 3 months prior. He chose to continue to mess up while I chose to try n change. Obviously he caught a case while I was still trying to do right (trying) n change my life around. Took me awhile but I can honestly say I'm not who I once was and as hard as it may seem he helped me! All the while I was/am trying to help him. We help ourselves, help eachother, and help "us".

Just bc I don't have 1st hand experience with being in prison doesn't mean I don't have experience with why some go to prison. Thank goodness I nvr had to go to prison, btw!

I say certain things that I think he says naturally.....he says "I don't talk hood around u" I told him sometimes he goes on a rant n it slips. or if hes really into a story or topic.

Once when I called him on something he said I didn't understand. we were talking about his sentence and he said-"I'm short it should be easy" Oh course I gave a wtf look.....he laughed an said,"it means I don't have much time left"

I sometimes call young kids "jits. "
My favorite one is, "Baby, are you picking up what I'm laying down? "
