Default Weddings at SRCI

We're still a few months away from the weddings at SRCI but I'm out of state and I need as much detailed information as I can get on it, because I want to make sure I have a great idea on what to expect when the time narrows down. IF anyone knows any information please let me know!

Right - it really helps if you narrow down your questions.

1. You should have your loved one send you the packet of information regarding Inmate Weddings. He should have obtained one when he put in his request, or he can request one from the Religious Services Department at Snake River.

2. Officient: Unless you are a particular or unusual (WICCAN) denomination, I simply recommend going with the Prison Chaplain and asking him/her to preform the wedding. At Snake River I would ask Chaplain Steve Toth, who I personally think is wonderful. Steve is a Presbyterian (PUSA) Minister. Very nice man. Knows all the ins and outs. There are a couple of other chaplains there at SRCI also, including (I think) a Buddhist woman I liked quite a bit. The Main number for the prison is (541) 881-5000. Call and ask for Chaplain Toth's extension.

3. Make sure you are up and current on the image rules for marriage available at this link. ORS Rules For Inmate Weddings.

4. Start off by making this a partnership... get your loved one to bird-dog these questions too... get him to feel involved. All the answers are available inside, and the staff, especially the Chaplain's staff, are pretty helpful when you actually ask them stuff. Make getting the information about the licenses HIS project...

5. Cost: That depends on you. A dress. Travel and lodging expenses. Rings. That pretty much sums it up at a minimum. There really isn't much more you are able to do. No opportunities for a band, DJ or reception. Sorry.:roll eyes:

I was told that prison officiants can't perform the ceremonies. Okay so it's that easy, I don't have to worry about getting the license? great. see I'm flying blind and I've been going nuts Is it true that I would have to bring witnesses or he can use people from inside because he's saying there's nothing to worry about and he'll take care of it. :/

1. Call the Chaplain (with the number I provided previously) and ask him/her these questions
2. You will still have to get a license.
3. You may have to bring witnesses - he can NOT use people from inside. Again, ask the Chaplain...they are EXPERTS in doing this kind of thing.
4. CAREFULLY read through the DOC Wedding Rules link I sent.

The paperwork I got from OSP said that I had to get the license and had a heck of a time trying to figure that one out luckily one of the gals ffrom here let me know where to go..the only place to get them through the mail here in Oregon is Washington county, its $60. I think you will have to bring your own witness's and they have to be on his approved priviledged visitor list..My hubbys son is in OSP with him and while he got to come to the wedding he wasnt able to be used as one of our witness's. I picked out both of our rings and ended up paying for them both but he payed for the license and the $25 for the preacher to marry us. Anything else I can help you with just let me know

Mandy
