Question Detoxing in prison

I am the mother of my 20 year old daughter addict who was arrested yesterday. She is addicted to oxicodone. My question is what if anything is available to her to safely detox from the drug while she is jail. I know that there are potential dangers when detoxing and am concerned for her health. Does anyone know if you just have to suck it up and deal with it or is there medically supervised detoxing?

I could be totally wrong but I don't think there is anyway. I'm not aware of anything. Sorry to not be able to give you any definite answers.

Every jail will differ. Some jails will give you tylenol, an anti-diarrhea medication, and maybe Benadryl. The good news is that while oxycodone detox is deeply unpleasant, it is not medically dangerous unless your daughter has some type of medical condition.

I've personally detoxed from Heroin and Oxycontin/other prescription pain killers while locked up several times and the facilities around here will not give you anything for a detox (although when I was withdrawing from Methadone they did give me Gatorade for dehydration everyday). Infact I always found it easier to withdrawal while incarcerated because you knew what you had to do and you couldn't just go out and get more.

It's not a pleasant experience and your daughter will be hating life for a couple of days but it's usually never medically dangerous like benzos or alcohol.

She should drink lots of fluids/stay hydrated and if possible she should try to at least eat something (such as fruit, I find fruit the easiest to eat while withdrawing).

It's gonna depend on where the jail is.

Maybe ask in your regional forum?
